So during the lifespan of the Genesis (and Master System too if you wanna count the Battlemaniacs proto) Rare released Battletoads, Battletoads and Double Dragon, Championship Pro-Am, and Snake, Rattle & Roll. IDK, always found this odd (though I'm sure it was something Tradewest wanted in their contract) considering Rare's later permanence on Nintendo hardware. Makes me wonder what would have happened if they went with Sega full steam

Outside of the Donkey Kong Country series because that one is strictly Nintendo, we could have gotten Killer Instinct games. :D

I would have been just very interested to see what they could have done with the Genesis hardware tbh. We could have gotten some great and very polished looking games

nah, Killer Instinct was a first-party Nintendo IP created by Rare(same for Banjo Kazooie), so would be unlikely see Killer Instinct in Genesis if Rare decided make games exclusively for Sega

in other hand... Rare should have ported Battletoads Arcade game with extra content for the Saturn before becoming a Nintendo second-party company

Banjo counts as first party too? Then why are Banjo and KI with Microsoft???

Rare was UK-based and the Master System & Genesis both sold well in the UK, so it makes sense. I don't think they had any particular close tie to Nintendo prior to Donkey Kong Country, that's what changed their trajectory.

they made all the LJN licensed games for Nintendo during the 80s.

So Nintendo saw no value in keeping them? UGH!
who knows, maybe Nintendo didn't wanted keep Banjo and KI as Rare was not longer a Second-Party, so a game without the original teams would not have sense and it's funny because when Rare was purchased by Microsoft, almost everyone that worked on Killer Instinct are gone

For Nintendo or for LJN? What I'm saying is they were an independent developer who worked under contract with various publishers up until Donkey Kong Country as far as I know. Nintendo knew they had a hit on their hands and invested a lot in it, and eventually bought some Rare shares. This is what made Rare a Nintendo second-party for a few years, until Microsoft bought them. Before that, they had no ties to Nintendo, so it makes sense that they made a few games for the Genesis.
