So yeah, I just got some gauntlets dropped in Secret of Mana. It makes my arm defense go from 20 to 90 so I'd say theres probably a slim chance for that happening, though there's no stats I could find to determine that. I also have gotten the mystical stick, goddess ribbon, and sword of kings from Mother 3 and Earthbound respectively, and I've caught a shiny Magikarp which was pretty useless considering you can get a free Gyrados. What about you guys?

In Secret of Mana, equipment drops like the gauntlets you're describing are notoriously hard to quantify, there's no official drop rate published, but many players estimate some of the endgame gear has less than a 5% chance of appearing from specific enemies. The jump from 20 to 90 defense suggests it's one of the top-tier armors, likely dropped by enemies in the Mana Fortress.

As for Mother 3 and Earthbound, the Mystical Stick and Goddess Ribbon are among the rarest items in their respective games. The Sword of Kings in Earthbound is especially infamous, it only drops from Starmen Supers in Stonehenge Base, and the drop rate is a mere 1 in 128. Players often spend hours grinding for it, and it’s only usable by Poo, making it a niche but coveted item.

Catching a shiny Magikarp is a fun flex! Shiny odds in most Pokémon games are 1 in 8,192 (Gen II–V) or 1 in 4,096 (Gen VI onward), unless boosted by methods like Masuda breeding or chaining. While Magikarp itself isn’t battle-worthy, evolving it into a shiny Gyarados gives you a visually rare powerhouse though as you mentioned, Gold/Silver hands you a free one at Lake of Rage.

I think most of the stuff I got in years past has been sort of nullified by rereleases or rate adjustments. I got a Spread Needle in PSO but it was on the GC version where it's not as good. Various cosmetics in Fallout 76 that are made available later in events more commonly, stuff like that. I don't remember the specifics, but I remember on some old Pokemon game, trying to catch some kind of special Feebas to evolve it or something, and I know I did that. But nothing super rare. Complete sets of stuff in Castlevania games, things like that.

Shiny Pokemon are the ones that come to mind for me. I only ever saw shinies when I would play on emulators, at least until they made it a lot easier to get them in later Pokemon games.
Pokemon Legends Arceus also gives you a free shiny Pokemon; a shiny Ponyta. That has blue flame though, so it's cool regardless.

I feel like if I actively try to farm rare drops in games, then I never get them ::sailor-embarrassed

Otherwise, I guess I have caught the "Devil of the Cygillan" in Final Fantasy XV

Feebas was tricky in the old Pokemon games! I spent ages as a kid trying to get one. Took me ages, even with following the official guidebook because the guidebook didn't actually say how to find one, just where it could be found::cirnoshrug

I dropped every items in Dragon Ball Xenoverse 1... Every item...

Those who don't know, the game has shit RNG even for medium rare items so imagine how shit is for rarest of rare items...

I even dropped that rare legendary underwear by playing the same shit by following the dropping conditions by playing perfectly and speedrunning the same quest for 3 days... 3 days!!!!

...but the game is fun AF that's why I just used it as an excuse!!! I was training for the tournament anyway!!! Yes... yes...

Oh, I know! I'd take my PS4 over to my friend's place when XV1 came out and we'd both be farming the same missions over and over for drops, me on PS4 and them on their PC. Frustrating, but ultimately good times!

The luckiest I've probably gotten in terms of drops etc. was in Monster Hunter Generations when I was hunting a Rathalos. When you chop it's tail off you can carve it and get a material from it, the rarest one for a Rathalos being the Rathalos plate with only 3% chance. I got it on the tail carve. When you damage certain parts of the body, sometimes you'll get what's called a shiny drop, called that because they appear as sparkles on the ground. Once again; the rarest drop there is the plate but with a 2% chance with this method. In the same hunt I got the plate form the tail, I got it from the shiny drop too.

I know you mentioned it already, but my best Earthbound run of all time was when I got all the ultimate equipment for each character on my first battles with the respective enemies that have those drops. Never had luck like that ever again.

hatching shiny female salandit in pokemon moon. transfer it to ultra sun, and use her in my playthrough.

I tried that for ages! The real kick in the teeth was hatching a shiny male Salandit, and males don't evolve into Salazzle ::sailor-embarrassed

The Goo King Sword in Breath of Fire III.
The Slime Crown in Dragon Quest games.

i got some males too. this is before i knew about swap breeding. i keep one and wonder trade some. i gave up and just breed for competitive team. one day i hatched a female shiny gible and since shiny garchomp is ugly i was like " what if i swap the gible with salandit? " and got a female shiny salandit. lol

talking about shinies, my first one was in silver a shiny graveler, and then there is me, in a country where the actual rarest drop is finding someone with a link cable to trade with to get me a shiny golem, that saddly never happend (rip lorenzo, it was just never meant to be)

There are 3 main equipment steps in Secret of Mana. When you get Flammie, the next is going directly to the Gold Isle to get the stuff way higher than you already have, although you will have to farm a little money for it.

The second step is getting the gauntlet from the Dark Knights in the Palace of Darkness and the amulet ring help from the crabs books in the Grand Palace. Their drop is not very rare, but you will have to stick a little while killing them but you will also level up in the way. I recommend stay away from the hedgehogs until you don't get the drops, as they are one dungeon stronger than the rest of the enemies, and they can kill you literally in 2 hits.

The last step is to get all the remaining drops in the last dungeon. There are various drops of some armors, so you might think you have the strongest and then another one will drop some other with 1 or 2 points higher. My real recommendation is to stick with:
  • Boy: Faerie's Ring, Power Suit & cockatrice cap
  • Girl & Sprite: Faerie's Ring, Faerie Cloak & cockatrice cap
Why cockatrice cap? it prevents petrification and it has only 8 points of defense less than the best cap. The faerie's ring prevents from all the rest of the stats but engulfed. The only way to prevent it is by using the Imp's Ring but it's a missable drop as it is from a Pure Land enemy. Anyways, it is not worth it, engulfing is not something many enemies do at later stages.

Ah yes, my first shiny was a Bellsprout in pokemon Gold (real gameboy)

Then i had the very sad luck of finding a shiny Koffin that used self-destruct on the first turn

Since i play with emulators, shiny cave pokemons seems to love me for some reason. Got a Shiny Onyx, Golbat, Geodude, Sandslash, Paras, etc

Oh, and the male Combee too.... that.... very masculine shiny Combee....

And when it comes to drops, most JRPGS games that had the very funny 1% or less chance drop/steal with the even rarer monsters that show up

They don't let me do anything at the Gold Isle shops, but I scored another gauntlet

Not possible, once you get Flammie you can go there and buy the equipement, there is absolutely no constrain to do so. Go to armor shop and talk to the clerk. You can get the 3rd gauntlet, but you need the cap and the armor anyways.

Yeah as it turns out. I was accidentally going to the coffee shop there.

Great, you got the money to buy everything? in early stages you can get a "fortune" by selling faerie wallnuts dropped by goblins within the Gaia's Navel, provided you have at least lv12, because otherwise you get traps. But you can't really farm money in the same way until you reach the Palace of Darkness, farming the same gauntlets with the Dark Knights. I always recommend it because when you finish the boss you no longer have access to the enemies in there, and it is useful for when you finish the grand palace and Neko is available, because you will have to invest a lot of money, plus enhancing the weapons with the orbs.

Anyways, in the last dungeon you can farm outrageous amounts of money by their equipement drops, although at that point money is not an issue anymore. Just for getting 9999999.

The only enemy that can hurt you when you have the strongest equipement is the Wolf Lord and only when he casts stone saber on itself. The rest of the enemies, unless they do a critical, you will dodge 95% of the time.

Yeah I was able to get like 20 magic armors in my gauntlet hunt, so that covered it. I've already passed that. I just now got all three cockatrice caps

Amazing. The last trouble you will have is to get the last orbs in the last dungeon. Do not give up hope, sometimes they take a lot of time to drop, but eventually you will have every weapon but the sword to LV9. Sword orb does not drop because of something that happens almost at the end of the game, I don't want to spoil.

Enjoy it! :)

By the way, I am curious, what are your favourite weapons? mines are Spear, Javelin and Whip :D

I'm partial to the Glove, Spear, and Bow

Shinies are a poster child for this.
