This is like trying to choose between favorite children...

- Golden Sun: The Lost Age | Djinn system is fun, adds new class items, super flashy psynergy, music blows me away almost every time, DOOM DRAGON SHATTERS THE SCREEN?!
- Breath of Fire IV | Smooth animation, great story, I like Scias a lot, I also like Cray a lot, music is also great
- Chrono Trigger | It's Chrono Trigger

The rest are all about the same in terms of rank for me, I haven't beaten them but I like what I've played so far.

Now this is the hardest for me to rank damn I love all this battle system

Just like @Sheepy765 said is like choosing your favorite child

I will lowest is Chrono Cross since I am not really big fan of it

My highest is the Golden Sun the Djnn class system is so good summons and puzzle.

Putting the game in the last of the ranking because he/she wasn't a fan is pathetic

I just want to say that Skies of Arcadia has the most beautiful music.

I can't choose they are all very good games...I have nice memories of completing Breath of Fire III though.

You ain't got no Dragon Quest in your list, so in using a ranking system...THEY ALL SUCK!!!

These games are not all turn based.

Since there are many, I will just mention Legend of Legaia. It's not my favourite from the list, but it's a game I really enjoyed because of its quite unique combat system.

How much of an improvement is it on the the first golden sun? I find myself giving up on the orignal golden sun when trying to replay it in recent years though the story of Felix did interest back when I first played golden sun and he's a main party member in the lost age, which piqued my interest that stayed a constant curiosity since. I recall the music being amazing in the first game but the amount of text to gameplay ratio in the first game is abysmal, If I want to read a book, I'll read a book ::sailor-embarrassed

Ah, another @Rex34 thread, I hope everyone is ready to have their choices needlessly criticised. But I have to commend this man's persistence, I would have taken the hint and buggered off back to jerkville by now.

thats tough, but i feel we can all agree that the gameplay systems of suikoden 2 are all undercooked and should go on the botton:

the duels are interesting, but its just guess the word meaning and there is like only 2-3 in the whole game.

the SRPG is just a glorified retelling of a battle where they let you move units however you want for the most part and let the thing play out.

the main battles there is the most effort, the union moves are nice and the sigils arre neat customization option, but it mostly just auto attacks, union attacks can get tiresome due to their animations if used too much and with the sigils for support and bosses.
it doesnt feel deep or interesting at the end of the day.

Based on gameplay, the Grandia series is still my favorite JRPG battle system despite being dead for years.

How much of an improvement is it on the the first golden sun?
I think party members automatically targeting the next wneny that’s alive if the one they were targeting previously was slain is the biggest improvement because it makes battles a little more smooth, but there’s a couple other improvements besides. Like now the explorable map is way bigger, there’s some unique items that change your class that you can pick up and equip, and it has Piers (Piers is neat). There’s some stuff beyond what’s mentioned that I forgot because it’s been a couple years.

#1: Chrono Trigger. No loading on SNES or DS. Most enemies are visible. Some battles can be avoided. It's linear until the last few events, but it only requires twenty hours.

#2: Suikoden 2. Unlike so many Playstation 1 games, no camera spins and cinematics. Minimal loading. I actually prefer the first Suikoden, but that's me being strange.

#3: Lufia 2. I don't love the puzzles or the roguelike section. That said, I think this is a good example of cartridge game pacing.

#4: Grandia 1 or 2. I should really enjoy these games. I guess it's just an example of less-than-perfect timing. The first game landed on Playstation 1 while I was busy with Tales of Destiny or something else. The second one arrived on Dreamcast, but I spent more time with Sega Swirl.

#5: Skies of Arcadia. Same bad timing. I should've liked this on Dreamcast or Gamecube, but I got distracted after a couple hours. I would've preferred a 2D game.

#6: Chrono Cross. Amazing soundtrack, fun combos, pretty good seven point combat system, interesting alternative to experience points and levels. Even though I finished this game around 2000, I haven't enjoyed it much since then. So many camera spins before every battle. I lose track of the story after a handful of hours.

I'm terrible at ranking stuff, it's all mood and vibes for me but let me give it a shot.

1. Suikoden 2
2. Chrono Cross - honestly back in high school I was obsessed with it so it might as well be #1
3. Xenogears
4. Chrono Trigger
5. Skies of Arcadia
6. Grandia
7. Grandia 2
8. Legend of Dragoons
9. Legend of Legaia
10. Wild Arms 2 - the translation was so awful but I enjoyed the game
11. Wild Arms - I prefer Alter Code F, sue me lol
12. Golden Sun The Lost Age

I haven't played the Breath of Fires and Lufia 2 long enough to be able to form an honest opinion
so leaving these out of the ranking because I only briefly played them
Breath of fire 3
Lufia 2
Breath of fire 4
