Rail Shooters

There's a 3DS port you say...?
Of Galaxy Force 2. Panorama Cotton actually has a modern system’s port which is only $10 digitally!

Weirdly not PC though. I have no idea why.

When I get home I'm installing that. I got Hshop and other homebrew apps. I wonder what the 3D mode would look like. Or does it not have it like some later 3DS games?

It’s inside “SEGA 3D Classics Collection”. 3DS is just a total beast for SEGA arcade stuff anyway, because M2 made a bunch of ports. It’s actually how I fell in love with a lot of these games! They’re really detailed, and they even try to replicate the moving arcade machine as much as possible in some. I think AfterBurner has the option for environmental noises of hydraulics recorded from the actual machine.

And, yes: it be 3D. Very 3D! There’s even multiple options to have the 3D either “pop out” or “fall in”. All of that is wasted on me because I’ve got a New 2DS XL :,)

I forgot about Mini. I think it's not great but I love the cover art:

That's the cutest thing I've seen in my life.

So this was Namco's answer to House Of The Dead and in my opinion it is a better game in every way.

Vampire-Night-PS2-HD-playthrough-3-54-screenshot.jpg

Saving civilians is precise but rewarding. Scatted throughout the stages will be villagers with parasites latched onto some part of their body. If you hit the parasite directly, it will fall off and die, but if you hit any other part of the hostage, it will instantly transform them into a vampire thrall.

While the story isn't very deep, it makes a HELL of a lot more sense than HotD and I find myself not wanting to skip the cutscenes out of pure cringe. Also, the boss characters are pretty sick, and their corresponding fights can be difficult but I don't feel like they're cheating me as much as most arcade shooter boss fights.

Also, if you're looking for a PC lightgun, I'd recommend the Sinden Lightgun. It's pretty affordable, you can use it on pretty much any monitor or screen, and you don't need any external sensor bars as it has a small webcam inside the gun that tracks your motions.

Namco's answer to House of the Dead? But they have Time Crisis

Time Crisis itself is their answer to Virtua Cop. Namco’s whole thing for a long time was going “oh, SEGA made that? Well we can do that too!”

Sometimes better, sometimes worse, but it was interesting to see every time.

I'll have to verify something soon

I like the House of the Dead series, since you gotta shoot the zombie scum more than humans in other games to make em go down.

Anyone else here ever make an arcade version of the first game crash from shooting real fast? Done it twice. First with my friend playing player 2, then once on my own. Both times at the same part.

My friend got real good too playing part 2 on the Dreamcast. So one day we both decided let's see how far we get on one credit on the first House of the Dead at one of our local arcades. So we shooting the hell out of the game, never even lost life mind you. Get to the part with Hangedman, (the fucker with the wings you shoot on the roof.) We were killing him HARD, large chucks of life coming off, screen flashing white from how quick we reloaded, suddenly the screen went completely white, and you could still hear the game but the screen stayed white. We were both like WTF? "See? We were kicking the game's ass so bad it had to stop us!"

So then I decided was gonna try to see if I could make another HOTD cabinet do the same thing at another arcade. So, found another cabinet out in wild all those years ago. Playing by myself, was able to get the Hangedman fucker again, with some effort and sore arm from shooting that fast and some how cause the glitch again, screen white and you hear the game still going.

I can shoot that fast, and ironically, playing these has helped when I shoot real guns.

While I love all of those that you mentioned, Rez and Child of Eden are probably my favorite. The soundtracks put me in such a zen-like state while playing them.

I wish someone got the source code of the arcade game because flashing light is the only thing I don't like about it...

The PC version is based on the Saturn port sadly.

I absolutely love Rez, it's the game that made me like Mizuguchi as one of my fav game designer.

I need to do Child Of Eden but many said it was disappointing. Is this possible to play it with a wiimote to emulate the light gun feel?

Love me some Galaxy Force.
Another game worth bringing up is actually a new rail shooter by an indie: Asura the Striker.
