Didn't even consider Harry's adventure tbh! Whenever I think of the series I tend to mentally start on 2 which is a bit silly tbh. As much as I love that game it also gave us pyramid head who become the most over-used monster in SH canon -.-

RE: SH1 though, it could be argued that the reason the town is so hostile to Harry is that beign attached to his "daughter" he would be aggressive against the monsters spawned from her psyche who are trying to harm her. Then again, Cybil has 0 connection to Alyssa outside of having a vague history with another child being bought into town and murdered or w/e, but she still gets attacked/possessed.

I think the reason this topic is so interesting is cus there's so much nuance to it.

SH1 is about as nuanced as running from a monster in a nightmare. It's one of the only things I've ever played that scared me, and it's closer to disturbed than scared. SH2 and SH3 are allegorical masterpieces. SH4 and onward is a meta scary story with the same moral message as Ol' Yeller, and its gets scarier with each new release.

Do not underestimate the power of the subconscious mind & mental state of the people that go to Silent Hill.
More often than not they fail to make it out. (not specifically protagonists)
The town can still very easily take you, after all. the spiritual power targets & draws in very emotionally damaged individuals from the very start, that is pretty dangerous in my books.
