(QUESTION) PS1 Image Replacement with CHD (instead of BIN/CUE)

I don't disagree, but it would be nice if WBFS was included as well if space permits.
I think it would be better if we provided the tools (or links to them) to people to convert iso files to their preferable formats.

I mean, of all Wii and Gamecube games that I ever posted, none of them were initially downloaded by me in .ISO format; they were all in .rvz which is Dolphin-friendly, but since Spike always uploaded games in .ISO format, I just convert them before posting to assure they are all matching the CRC and all these shenenigans that some people care.

While I don't disagree with the idea of sharing both, wbfs format will certainly make it easier for people to download, Spike already tried to share wbfs format before and people didn't like it, justifiably so, from my experience the avrage person would rather preserving the most raw, most convenient version and to give them the choice if they wanna compress or convert them.

However, sharing both won't solve the servers space issue (not that there's a serious concern rn) if anything it will double it, plus it will be more difficult for the curators having to share two versions, but we already do that with Dreamcast (gdi/cdi), PS1 (iso/eboot) and PS Vita (nonpdrm/vita3k) and when/if we start sharing 3DS there's a high chance we will have to do so as well as 3DS emulators use decrypted format while modded 3DS use encrypted, it's actually more important than with the Vita since nonpdrm uses the same format as vita3k but the installation process is a bit different, honestly I don't think both are needed for the Vita but this is how Spike went with it, maybe I'm missing something, I play on real hardware so idk.

this is what I originally suggested way back when we started hosting Wii games. I still think that would be a good idea too.

I do not care if you want or do not want to use CHD but I do dislike the wild misinformation people have about it. The format is not cause of corruption, it is likely something gone wrong in the pipeline, not the format itself.
Maybe you were speaking in general, but I don't think any of us meant that the format itself causes corruption. Most of us prolly use the format too, but prefer to convert it ourselves.

Man, now I'm worried I'll run into problems playing my .chd PS2 games. I grabbed a bunch to backup my disc collection and converted all of them to .chd. Deleted the original isos because I could not afford the space. I was under the impression that corruption wasn't an issue.
i did the same thing, all my PS2 games are stored as .CHD on PC
but the other week i was modding an actual PS2 which requires .ISO
so i just converted my ps2 .CHD's to .ISO but none of them worked and i couldn't figure out why it wasn't working, until i downloaded a fresh .ISO from the repo and it worked fine
so i figured the roms had been corrupted in the extraction process
but to be fair i used OPL Manager to go from .CHD > .ISO and it is a stupid temperamental tool that probably deserves the blame

No, I'm with you, as much experience I have with the gaming tech I was never successful in convertion from/to chd format, I dunno what everyone is talking about it being easy to do but I personally despise it, it corrupted the games I tested.

I'm sure the format itself is highly praised but my point is it's not as accessible as those who are used to using it seem to believe.

I took the time to verify all my PS2 .chd hashes and everything matched. Except one single game: Downhill Domination. I'd gotten that one off the Repo and the .iso file didn't match either. I guess it's a bad dump? Anyways, the .iso I grabbed off Vimm's verified fine. So no trouble in the end. ::coolmines

I think bin/cue is better to keep as is since you could always convert it yourself if you feel the need to.
