It actually really annoys me just how hard this has been to answer, but I don't know anyone in either the United States or Canada who owns a physical radio anymore... Odd as that sounds.

So... Please tell me:

Are MLB games still free over AM radio?

I have read super conflicting information about it, but nothing solid nor definitive (and the few affiliated broadcasters I was able to locate have location-based blackouts outside of their areas, because of course they do).

It'd be pretty distopian if that stopped, considering it was seen as so unbelievably normal just a few decades back as to even being the main plot point on Stephen King's "The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon", but I also can totally see MLB pulling the plug on that.

Thanks!

Yes, many Major League Baseball games are still broadcast for free over AM radio, often through team-specific or local radio stations. Additionally, some games may be available for free through streaming services like MLB.com, often with a free trial or a "Free Game of the Day" offering.

My old ass car still has cassette and a AM/FM Radio. I turn it on every now and then and i hear sports broadcast sometimes. They do air baseball and football via radio still at least here in the US.

Thanks! I was so ready to accept that those were goners since MiLB cut all Minor League baseball transmissions over the TuneIn Radio app.

In the US we mostly transition to satellite radio and from what i saw on new generation cars. In most parts of the US they still broadcast sports AND detective/stories radio shows. I didnt know that till i drove a new 2025 Land Rover Defender
