(PSX) Brightis (English Translation)....maybe?

I saw this somewhere and it seems to be complete, although judging from a couple pics it has some bad English.

[The Real Thing]

That is English done in an archaic style. It's meant to sound like how a Knight might speak. Nothing wrong with what is in those screenshots. I started the translated game and saw in the 'prologue words scroll' it said 'fount', which I was unaccustomed to, and thought maybe they meant 'font', as in 'font of magic'. But 'fount' is the more historically-accurate term, turns out!

That said, may have its rough parts, being a new translation v1.0 and all.

Edit: Point being: A more faithful translation approach in this case is to have that Knight style, rather than a strict 'by the book' translation, as shown by the 'discrepancy' examples at the bottom of your screenshots.

The game seems to take place on a medieval setting so the weird mannerisms and speech patterns seem to be a localization effort from the translator, I don't see anything wrong with that honestly. It's an artistic Choice.

Hi, posting this for awareness that this is unrelated to the original translation effort.

I go by tank120 here, but on other sites I go by Dick Debonair. I am currently unaware if I will be able to get in contact with Wado, who is certainly naming themselves after the main wizard in the intro of Brightis, about how they’ve made this translation based on old versions of our tools, but I do want to express that I am impressed they got it done. I know it couldn’t have been easy.

However, the original team has begun working on it again. And will have another translation to show for it soon!

Yes, that’s the source they forked for this. It is also incomplete.

Nobody wants Brightis more than I do. This just isn’t it.

I'm really glad someone came in and finished translating and coding Brightis.

This is an outstanding piece of technical work and is very welcome.

The translation is entirely new, and done from scratch, according to the Github thread, and seems to use none of the old code.

It says it's using the MTL source "retranslated". I'm assuming they just mean they edited the text to sound better. Similar was done with Trails from Zero/Azure and those both didn't turn out great until Geofront finally delivered quality.

It's looking like they're claiming they didn't use MTL now though despite DeepL being under the list of tools used for the translation. Who really knows at this point anymore.

Either way, it is apparently very incomplete as DD says.

Yeah, with more information it looks like maybe it's either a mix or the guy used the text inputting? I'm playing it right now and it's pretty rough, but I don't know if it's MTL. I concede on the whole thing and I'll clean up my posts in here so people don't think something that may be incorrect.

Dick Debonair's posts made this confusing, but it's cool if this is fully this new guy's work given that I've been waiting for this forever. I'm a big Terranigma fan and I also loved The Granstream Saga. This one has the same faceless 3D models so that won't be jarring to me LOL.

Sounds like Dick Debonair said the DeepL stuff is old and he switched to human translators later. He says their translation will be out "soon" so I guess that's another option if people want to wait.
