Listen, I love the Vita a lot, but if we really boil down the system's catalog, most of the best games on there are ports of PS2/3/4 games. The handheld has some good originals, but the 3DS outclassed the Vita eventually, and got most of the big-hitting franchises the Vita should have realistically gotten.

I don't see much of a reason to recommend the Vita to most people. You'd frankly be better off getting a PSP instead.

I would recomend the Vita to someone who likes the homewbrew scene (or to someone who really loves JRPG). There are a lot of very good ports made by fans. Also the Vita works as a control so that's really cool. But at the end both systems are excellent

Most people probably love the Vita for two key reasons:
One, it is one heck of a portable emulation machine.
Two, it has some pretty awesome original stuff.

Both are valid reasons, but one should probably check to see if the library is truly of interest, first.

I've had my Vita since it came out in Dec 2011. It's got a lot of milage on it and still keeps on truckin'. I'd for sure recommend the Vita not for it's original games, but for how well it is for it's homebrew scene. The amount of things you can accomplish on a custom firmware modded PS Vita is astounding. There's all sorts of good performing source ports of classic pc titles like all the Doom/Heretic/Hexen wads through Chocolate Doom, that Chinese Paladin game that just got added to here recently can play perfect on it, there's Half Life, Diablo, Fallout 1 & 2, Duke Nukem 3d, Space Cadet Pinball (yep the Windows XP shipped classic) Shadow Warrior, Blood, Quake, and many more that I haven't mentioned. They've ported several android games to Vita and they run full speed and feel like they natively belong on it. Game Maker Studio also works on Vita and you can port over games from android or pc based on it (although the android ones usually do better) There's RetroArch and other emulators you can run to play all your favorite classic titles. You can also play psp and ps1 games through Adrenaline. You can also play every Vita game for free and install them without help from a pc using an app called PKGj. Like seriously if any of the things I mentioned sounded appealing I would totally recommend getting a PS Vita. Not the oled or PS TV tho. The original model is best imo

I recommend it, but the modified Vita (unlocked). With one of these you can use SD2Vita and play PSP games, emulators, ports (Bully, GTA 3, GTSSA) and homebrews.
I bought one and I don't regret it.

For me whether or not I recommend the vita is up to what kinds of games the other person is into. Like if they like visual novels or rhythm games I absolutely would. But other than like a handful of niche genres there's not much to pick from. So it just depends on if they like games like that. And of course if they're up to modding it too of course.

Yes
I agree with the comment above yours as well (gta 3 and bully are awesome)
its such a powerful little emulator machine and its full potential wasn't initially recognized until people started modding it!
i have 2x Vita 1000's and you can even link them and play 2p games. such good value 👍

The psp UI is also accessible on vita, so only reason to have a vita is that if you prefer the size

I used to own PS Vita but I sold it and I don`t regret it, now I enjoy playing PS Vita games on Vita3K on my computer. I have plans to download PSP emulator since I don`t own PSP and play PSP games.
I really like my 3DS and have download couple of 3DS games on it.

Honestly I mostly used the vita for emulation as the vita library is not very impressive to me, its mostly ports of games that I would rather play on a big screen, and when I got an anbernic it kinda completely replaced it, not only it is more powerful thus emulates stuff better, but also has L2 R2 buttons. BUT, if the person never had a PSP and wants to get the portable experience, I'd say it can be worth it as afaik every PSP game works on the vita through adrenaline nowadays.

For me I recommend if someone into visual novels or otome games.PSP,DS,SNES etc it has much less, which is not a significant problem since they are more advantageous in other categories.

If you get it for a decent price, it's one of the best portable emulation system, especially with the homebrew scene.

Honestly unless you really like the 3ds exclusives or a big pokemon guy, it's not worth picking the 3ds over the vita, especially with how outrageous the 3ds can go for on the used market.

The original is the OLED one though, the revision/2nd model is LED. Both are great, but the screen on the OLED (if you can get one that doesn't have any burn in) is truly beautiful.
While I wouldn't necessarily recommend the PSTV, I have one and tend to use it more than my original Vita these days.

The Vita has been superseded by my Steam Deck as far as emu and the like goes, and that's all I used the Vita for anyway. It's a real shame the Vita never got the library it deserved in the West. Never been much for homebrew...
By the way, did you guys know that Vita means Life?

Personally if the person has enough cash for a ps vita I would say go for it.

The steam deck is a complete and utter beast but I used to have a vita until it gotten lost.

This system is surprisingly still huge in Japan. I had one of them back in like 2012, but the only game I had for it was Uncharted. Should have kept it smh. I think the 3DS is good in it's own respective way, definitely a more limited system but it's UI and exclusive features make it worth it.

The homebrew potential and community for PSV, I feel is worth it, yes.
