ps3 vs x360 Megathread

The Xbox 360 is the winner .... but the PS3 has its fair share of underrated exclusive games too in its system .

I think i get a PS3 and dive into it .

Btw , how far is the modding scene on the PS tripple ? ::sailor-embarrassed

Name another game ANYONE cared about for the first few years of the system..
FACTS

I experienced this first hand. Ironically, I actually did try some other Xbox games, but no one I knew gave a crap about anything on the system other than Halo. I still ended up spending far more time gaming on my PS2. The PS2 was king at the time

The PS3 got cracked ages ago. You can do a lot of things with it. The Vita as well. In fact, Sony doesn't care about the Vita so you probably wouldn't even have to worry about a ban with a hacked Vita unless you do something stupid like unlock 20 trophies in 10 seconds and sync that to Sony's servers.

It was only around for 4 years. It was carried by the best versions of 3rd party and multiplatform games like Splinter Cell, and their first party lineup was good enough to build hype for the 360.

It's homebrew scene created XBMC which is still used to this day.

The thing had Halo, Halo 2, Forza, Fable, Morrowind, KOTOR, KOTOR 2, Jade Empire, Dead or Alive 3, Ninja Gaiden Black, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Jet Set Radio Future & Sega GT were pack-in exclusives.

You are completely out of your mind. Whining about and dismissing Xbox or Halo in multiple threads.

It may be burnt trash these days, but it was flagship, cutting edge gaming 20 years ago.

The keyword that was being thrown around at the time was INNOVATION .

Sony, went the direction of hyper-advanced architecture..

Nintendo, revolutionized the idea of the controller with the Nunchaku..

Microsoft.... just made a stronger Xbox...

The Dreamcast was cutting edge, and the Xbox stole most of its ideas. Microsoft never could create anything of value on its own in the gaming space

Microsoft completely created the standard way you play games online now, with a centralized account profile, a peer to peer gaming network on consoles, where you can easily VOIP chat with friends.

Sega had no money and they killed themselves by working on garbage like Shenmue.

a.k.a. lots of online, multiplayer bull crap. You can thank them for that, I resent them for it.

Sega had online connectivity but never built the console around it. So much better

You say that yet Sony pretty much overhauled their entire online system for the PS4 to make it closer to what the 360 had. I've never been a big online multiplayer guy myself, but 360 online gaming absolutely wiped the floor with PS3's multiplayer from my experience.

Splintercell was about the only other bestselling hit they had on their hands. Almost everything else came 2-3 years later.

I maybe high on copium... but I'm not wrong..

Sony did it out of necessity, because that is what the competition was doing. My point is that I don't like that Microsoft is the cause for everything in gaming being so online focused now. Everything bad in modern day gaming was born on the 360

Online gaming, the revenue generating driving force of your favourite hobby.

Yes, because big sellers like Horizon Zero Dawn made lots of money because of online gaming right? Same with every Mario, Zelda, and every other 1st party Nintendo game right?

Online gaming could die tomorrow and the industry would be fine.

Achievements were in every game. PS3 had to add them later,
The fact that PS3 games had an extra loading screen for checking trophies made me almost automatically prefer achievements, even if "GamerScore" was always a corny term.

You're both trying to revise history about Xbox's contributions to the industry.

The OG console was cutting edge PC hardware powerhouse, and it carried the flag Sega put down. It's short success built up to the 360 launch which was a full paradigm shift into what we all do now.

The whole brand collapsed in on itself and it's a joke now, but Jesus Christ. The reason you hate CoD/Halo clones is because of how influential the whole shift has been.

There as never been an easier time to get access to games when the 360 rolled out Games on Demand, too. Let's whine about that. Digital games or evil or something, right?

Also don't forget Arcade.
There really wasn't anything like that at the time, a storefront and publishing system totally dedicated to indie games, retro remasters and similar lower-cost games.

That shit was EXCELLENT.

As a console gamer I don't like saying this, but there has never been any console that was a "cutting edge PC hardware powerhouse". I'm sure the moment the original Xbox debuted it was probably already outdated by PC standards. And it didn't matter anyway, everyone was still buying PS2 games. The Gamecube was also more powerful than the PS2 and yet still couldn't compete with it. Actually, the fact that many Xbox games were on PC actually became a point of criticism. Why not just HAVE a PC?

And no it did not carry Sega's flag. The Dreamcast had lots of arcade games, fighting games, JRPGs, and Japanese flavored games. The whole Xbox brand went HARD towards shooters, Western oriented games, and stuff that you could play on PC while Dreamcast actually had cool exclusives. The Dreamcast brought online to gaming but didn't make their console a SLAVE to it. So many original and creative games we got that Sega developed and published that we didn't get from Microsoft. They bought Rare and we got...what? The only good game I remember was Viva Pinata. How many creative, imaginative titles actually came from Microsoft? Just Halo games and shooters. The 360 lived and died on thirty party support. The entire vibe of the Dreamcast was ENTIRELY different than the Xbox and the Xbox 360. What about quirky fun stuff like VMU games? What happened to that? Nothing like that on Xbox consoles.

As far as Arcade goes, it was cool, but that sort of thing would have come to be one way or another whether it was Xbox doing it or Nintendo or Sony. All things entertainment eventually moved in a direction of being available digitally. If nothing else it would have been Valve pushing out those indie games on Steam and everyone else following suit.
