For me, I love Ridge Racer 7.
But I’m a Ridge fan, so that’s expected.

For real, it’s possibly the best looking game on the console for being high speed, 60fps, 3D, 1080p with an appealing art style that is filled with the PS3’s favorite: particle effects!

But, if I had to choose a non-exclusive game, Split/Second is amazing. A combative arcade racer where you trigger traps in the environment using power that you accumulate from drifts!

Have fun, no matter what game you choose to play!

That’s right! If you mod your system, be sure to “acquire” Daytona USA.
It’s an arcade perfect port of the popular arcade racing game from SEGA, which released in 1993.
Incredible music, fast paced gameplay, and bright visuals make for a wonderful game! It doesn’t have the pizazz and immersion of the real arcade cabinet, nor the secrets of the Saturn version, but it’s Daytona running at full speed on your own home system and that’s good enough! Plus extra modes because SEGA cared. I wish they’d care more often, but I’m glad they did in this case.

Agreed on Daytona, Ridge Racer, the Motorstorm, and Sonic Racing games
this thread also reminds me I wanted to try Blur

For something I don't see mentioned yet, I thought Cars 2: The Videogame was surprisingly fun

Yes, Blur is a great racer, in my opinion not exactly as good as Split/Second but pretty good.

I like those kinds of racers, loving also MotorStorm: Apocalypse and Ridge Racer Unbounded. Also NFS: The Run.

You could also try the Crash Time games:

Crash Time 4: The Syndicate
Crash Time 5: Undercover

Driver: San Fransisco is very good too.
