PS2 PS2 title you owned that you didn't see many others having?

The PS2 has a beautiful library, it's vast, there's hidden gems mixed in everywhere, and many of the games have really good gameplay for their time.

What was a PS2 game you owned that you didn't see very often in others' libraries? For me, it was Rune - Viking Warlord, man I loved that game. I remember finding it at a garage sale years and years ago when I still had a fat PS2. Ragnar was a legend, he had that traditional barbarian name, the sound effects were terrible yet I couldn't help but love em'.

I'm honestly the only Snoopy vs the Red Baron nerd that I know.
I've actually heard some praise for this game but i'll be damned if I ever knew someone who owned it.

Digital Devil Sagas 1 and 2 - at the time JRPGs in general weren't really a thing anymore where I grew up. Aside from FFX at least. Which is of course ironic, given the PS2's overabundance of great JRPGs!
I concur with this. I had very little knowledge of any ATLUS game until post high school, fortunately an old friend introduced me to Persona 3 FES and it became one of my favorite games of all time.

I'd say Yakuza 2. Sure the series is popular now, but back in the PS2 days it was definitely more niche. It's too bad, since it blew a lot of other brawlers out of the water and had some great locals to check out. I blame lazy game reviewers tarred the series as "Japanese GTA", even though the two only had open maps in common.

To be honest I think a lot of the appeal of the PS2 as a kid (which can't be replicated with emulation and fullsets now IMO) came from the fact that no two libraries would be alike. In most cases, your friend would have a completely different shelf of games than you, with only the essentials like Need for Speed or Grand Theft Auto lining up. Since I come from a car-obsessed family, we have lots of racing games, and that meant I ended up with some pretty obscure selections like the arcade port of Cart Fury, or TXR Drift. It's why I never understood the love for the Colin McRae series when I vastly preferred the first licensed WRC title.

Now if I had to name the most obscure game in my collection which I know for a fact barely anyone else has, it'd be Sky Odyssey.

Like this isn't even an underground game, I'm sure most retro enthusiasts vaguely recall it. But practically no one owns or has played what I would argue is the greatest console flight sim ever made. Going back to my previous point, I don't get the love for Ace Combat when all I want is an Indiana Jones-style game with biplanes...

Good one. I only knew it by name during the PS2 era and had not actually seen the case in person, at least not consciously. I've always wanted to try Yakuza out but I'm unsure on where I should start.

These two: I had ultimate ninja 4 in Japanese because I think the game was kinda new at the time and the guy who burn the iso into the disk probably downloaded the first iso that he saw. And Batman Beyond I was ready to buy a super duper 100% legal disk copy of Ratchet and clank but then I saw the boxart and I was like: Oh wow a Batman game! I want that please.

Now these two are very known but at that time at the school I was the only guy who played those types of games

Yakuza 0 is a decent place to start. It's a prequel to the first game but the story is easy to follow without prior knowledge of the series to enjoy. You'll just miss out on the meaning of a few easter eggs.

If you're playing PS2, the first two are still playable though the first one lacks a bit of polish compared to the second.

Good to see UN4 here! Another one I thought ended as a trilogy until much later in life. Same with the Gekitou Ninja Taisen games, love the 4th one of that.

Might be infamous horror game 'Rule of Rose', back in the day I had a USA version and PAL version (French cover, English text) both.
Excellent, I have this in my library as well (digitally, but nevertheless).

Earlier FromSoftware games were so surreal, the music in Evergrace 1 and 2 had a huge impact on me.

I love From and I love this art, going to be adding this one to the stockpile.

Was this one for me. One of my favorite games on the console and I have yet to meet someone in real life who owned it.

This was mine:

My brother, who does not play video games at all, got this for me for Christmas one year. Played it soooooo much. Very easy to just get lost in. Everything you do adds to the music so the more you feel the rhythm the better you do. Nothing like it at the time, and not many since.

For me it's Sub Rebellion. Very nice submarine game.
I will be trying this. Thank you for putting it on my radar!

Great choices from both of you. I downloaded both Finny and Gitaroo Man some time ago based on cover art alone. Have played segments of each and enjoy them. :)

I second middler's decision to check this out. Haven't seen too many submarine based games.
