Recently my manager took in a trade involving an SCPH-75001 model PS2 slim which cannot play PS1 games due to a dead laser, when searching online there weren't really any options it seems for exactly 75001 model PS2s. Are there any models that have the exact same layout or form factor disc drive/laser that would be a suitable replacement?

Test it with a PS2 CD game. It looks to me that the potentiometer for CD reading is not set up correctly. Do you have a multimeter? if not, I recommend getting one.

Regarding the lens, get a PVR-802W. 75000x models came with either SPU-3170 or PVR-802W, but the former is very bad lens and will give you problems for sure. If you have it, just trash it once you get the PVR-802W.

The price should be around 10-15€, and even if the lens is refurbished, it is ok, it will work wonderfully.

If your console has a SPU-3170 you will have to recalibrate it for the PVR-802W once you get it. Do not worry, it is very simple, and you only need a homebrew application for that.

Enjoy it :)

Literally, sell them on eBay

After reading this we bought a PVR-802W lens, it should be arriving soon hopefully. Thanks!
you can soft mod it with FreeMcBoot memory card + USB drive and use Popstarter emulator to play PS1 games on PS2 with a broken laser
Good idea but we intend on selling the console after repairing it, although I def will do this when my laser eventually dies out!
