For the past few days, I’ve been wanting to try Sony’s first console, but the problem is that I don’t really know which game to start with. That’s why I’d like to know what titles you’d recommend.

I play pretty much everything, so feel free to go wild!

Threads Of Fate and The Misadventures Of Tron Bonne are AMAZING, as is Doom on the console. Little Big Adventure can be great, too (if a little awkward to control) and their port of Need For Speed III isn't the worst.

Rapid Reload/Gunner’s Heaven
Legacy of Kain Soulreaver
Grandia
C12 Final Resistance
Breath of Fire 3-4
Final Fantasy 9
Macross VF-X2
King of Fighters 95-99
Tail Concerto
Rhapsody A Musical Adventure
Super Robot Wars Alpha

Ohh boy, you know what time it is? It's time for yet another instance of me recommending the same games for 985th times.

Baroque ~Yuganda Mousou~
Currently Roguelike/Roguelite genre is hella popular, and more so than Souls-like during its prime time. But yet I dislike Rogue making me an irregular person, but there's one Rogue that honestly one of the best, especially if you love King's Field (since you ask this question probably not lol), and that is Baroque ~Yuganda Mousou~ (lit. "Baroque ~Distorted Delusion~").

My Quick Summary of Why You Should Play Baroque

Ace Combat 3: Electrosphere
Other people will probably recommend you to start with Ace Combat 0: The Balkan War for its masterpiece of storytelling, characters, and music, and other might go for Ace Combat 7: Unknown Skies (or perhaps the upcoming ACE8). But since we are restricted to PS1, Electrosphere has to take the slot this time around.

But make sure you get the English Patched, since the US release cut several missions and multiple ending.

Front Mission 3
Do you love mecha? Do you intrigue by the SRPG genre? And do your winkle gets hard when there's absolute cheesy build? Then you came to the right place, my friend.

Front Mission 3 will pull with 95% chance of proc where you get hooked by its insane skill activation, and praying for you and your allies to hit the head (you'll understand why when you taste this bad boy). Also Emma best route. Anyone who say otherwise will taste my 6x ROFUP I.

Evil Zone
And to close the final entry for today, I'm going to recommend Evil Zone if want to see one of the more interesting Fighting Game.

Firstly, this game button scheme is beginner-friendly, in fact, "new to FG genre"-friendly as a whole.

And what's make this one interesting is simply because any character you choose to play will have their own canonical story where their fate intertwined with themselves (mirror match stage), with episodic anime style (think of Asura's Wrath) for its story presentation. That's right, not just character ending where you get to see special FMV like in Tekken, but an actual story of why all characters motivated to beat the final boss.

If you want some deeper cuts (I'll also try avoiding known quantities or games other people have already mentioned ITT)...

Skullmonkeyz
Planet Laika
Galerians
Misadventures of Little Ralph
Rapid Reload
Lunar 2: Eternal Blue
Koudelka
Pandemonium
Tomba
Tomba 2
Klonoa
Parappa the Rapper
Um Jammer Lammy
Raystorm
Ray Crisis
Silhouette Mirage
Speed Power Gunbike
Battle Angel Alita
Iria/Zeiram
Deception series
Wizardry
Vandal Hearts games
Mizzurna Falls
Acounouga
Ridge Racer Type 4
Tobal 1 & 2
Critical Blow

Valkyrie Profile Lenneth
Azure Dreams
Brave Fencer Mushashi
Legend of Mana
Saiyuki Journey to West
Dino Crisis 1 and 2
Fear Effect 1 and 2
Vanguard Bandits
PopoloCrois 1 2 and Rogue

Something Good: Alundra
Something Bad: Invasion From Beyond
Something Different: Pink Panther: Pinkadelic Pursuit

Everyone else is going to throw all the obvious ones at you so I chose a few that didn't get so much love. I got Pink Panther as a random button game here in the repo, so that is always an option as well.

Enjoy!

In few ways quintessential PS1 game. Weird game as it prepared to analog sticks required future yet saw it in very different way while being one great collectathon action platformer. Kula World/Kula Quest also from early library that is simple yet just imaginitive simple arcadey fun combining puzzling with simple platforming.

Klonoa, Mega Man X4, Mega Man Legends 2, FF7, have all aged remarkably well.

To keep it concise and avoid repeating other users:
Armored Core (1)/Project Phantasma/Master of Arena 2.5-logy
Castlevania Symphony of the Night
Ecsaform
Legend of Mana
Racing Lagoon
Suikoden 2
Vagrant Story
Vanguard Bandits
Xenogears

FTFY

You’ll never go wrong with Castlevania: Symphony of the Night....
It’s a great game and one of the best on the system. If you love a good, dark, well written story, Soul Reaver is a must. And if you can get past the loading screens in every room, The original Blood Omen the first game in the Blood Omen/Soul Reaver series, is amazing with some badass Shakespearean writing.

If you're going to play Soul Reaver, I highly advise playing Blood Omen first.

Parasite Eve...Always recommend this game. Then Followed by the Syphon Filter trilogy and Megaman Legends and Final Fantasy. Tactics is the best and they have all games up to 9 except 3 for some dumb reason. I don;t know why it too forever for it to get re-released till 3d remake.

(side note, I didn't even know until now that Gunner's Heaven released overseas under a new name)
(side side note, despite the box art, PS1 Advanced Variable Geo is actually the most un-lewd, why they used the box art idk)

The first Two Lunar Games, easly the best versions

If you don't mind the lack of calibration and the inputs being somehow off, Parappa The Rapper

People claim it is as lame as 5, but Megaman 8 is easly the best game of the classic saga (Before 11 and after 4)

The one you can't but MUST however must go be my little baby cabbit
