Looking at setting up a virtualization system using recent hardware, so to take advantage of more efficient power management.

The idea is to have one big server, to run all emulation and virtualization catered to gaming only, and fiering up the system as and when needed.

I have had some success with windows 7 and 8, and a little with XP, but beyond that i get a lot of errors or sound not working.

Has any one tried running old Windows Builds for gaming within proxmox?

Do you know of any good set up guides?
And has any one got this working natively?

Running old Windows versions in Proxmox for gaming is possible, but tricky. Windows 7 and 8 usually work well, but XP and older builds like Windows 98 often have sound and graphics issues due to poor driver support. Some users fix audio problems with tools like VB-Audio Cable, and improve performance by setting up GPU passthrough, though that requires tweaking boot settings and hiding virtualization from the VM.

For very old systems like Win98, emulators like PCem or 86Box work better than trying to virtualize directly. There are solid guides online for setting up gaming VMs in Proxmox, especially for newer Windows versions. If you want help planning your setup or organizing your games, I can help sketch it out, zine-style if you’re feeling creative.

Thanks for the response, i am still compiling a list, but the idea for PC titles is to keep my collection as near mint as i can, like the big box ones, with the idea that i do not have to mess up the boxes (they are kind of falling apart already), and keep maps and the like (additional content for the games) in as best condition as possible, firing it up on proxmox when i have time to play and enjoy. As or right now, just to get an idea of what i have going from old games i had in my collection.

7th guest windows xp, 78
Tech war windows 95, xp
Day of the Tenticle windows 95, xp, 7
Diablo windows xp, 7

Currently these are all installed on the local VM, but i would like to generally the games will ideally be on a file share within the same server, so that the system that is fired up can just call upon the game from the share store.

Still working on others when i have time, just have some deadlines i have to meet first, and doing this as a side project, and i was hoping to see others builds and what they may have going, so that i could make this some what faster to develop for.
