proper Hiphop/rap

Not sure how you’d define "proper" but hip hop as a genre is in an incredibly healthy place right now globally. I don’t think there’s ever been more good stuff available than now, especially if you look outside the US and languages beyond English.
Granted a certain sub-genre of mainstream hip hop has become the dominant form of pop music in the west, but I find it very easy to avoid and I’m not missing out on anything.

one of my absolute favorite recent discoveries has been Organized Konfusion, a duo of Prince Poetry and Pharoahe Monch. they only did two albums, but they're both absolute gold.
another favorite is Handsome Boy Modeling School. weirdly enough, they're a duo of two pre-established hip hop artists who made two excellent albums and then dipped... anyways, their albums are chock full of guest stars, and it feels like a real appreciation for the genre. (in particular, Rock and Roll Could Never Hip Hop Like This Part 2 feels like a total love letter)

I mean, hip hop is a varied genre and trap ( the one dominating the charts ) isn’t exactly a sub-section founded on introspective lyrics and complexity.

There’s nothing wrong with it, and I’d argue that conscious rap is still popular through artists like Kendrick and JID.

Sure, there’s a ton of ass *cough* Nettspend *cough* but that’s because the internet is more available than it was before.

Talent still exists and Hip Hop isn’t going anywhere, they said this back in the day and they’ll say it until we all drop dead.

I don't know what y'all mean about "proper" hip hop but the new By Storm song is stellar. They used to go by Injury Reserve btw. Anything from these guys is fantastic.

Hip Hop and Rap is a style of music i'm still easing into but Outkast has quickly become one of my favorite artists. Aquemini might be my favorite album of the latter half of the 90s! Also really really fond of Biggie Smalls.

Anything by Count Bass D, there's a reason MFDOOM collabed with him so much. His tribute to MPC

Been listening to Qaudry do much recently, his latest project is actually beautiful to me. This is the music video to go along with the album, it isnt the full songs.

Here's an underground jam from the 90s. RIP A.D.O.R.

Dope track, very underrated rapper with a great album. He recently died :(

yeah that's exactly what bugged me off I'm fine with the criticism please critic me all you want and shit on my take but calling me a dogwhisling racist for saying the face of rap its not what it used to be is a bit much, if anything he should be happy that i like the golden age of rap
some considerable chunk of ppl, in any gen, will 'miss the point' of most things. I am very loud on the autistic spectrum it seems n was born without much of a real emotional component - but enough mimicry, over time, had essentially grown the real deaL inside of me. so I know the feeling of bein cognitively-challenged/out-of-sync with 'common sense' (wutevR the fuck that's supposed to entaiL). but where there's a wiLL, blahzay yada blah blah yackety-schmackity.

Extreme Woke (I apologize if this sounds offensive) is a beautiful idea taken waaay too far, to its detriment n the detriment of those who abrasively cross its highly semantical n manipulative path. feels like I need to say this but like I said if it ruffles anyone's feathers then my apologies in advance. gettin into politics or religion is the path that was paved with good intentions leading somewhere shitty so enough of that from my end o _ O

Edit: in my rambling about the evolution of hiphop i meant the recent/this gen became more mid than ever since most main stream stuff are your regular gang banging rap, the 2000s rap were great i grew up with it playing rockstar games (Gta,Midnight club) that was my start and then i started shaping my tast based on what i liked from these games, i think i left this detail out and it sounded like i hate all 2000s rap/hiphop so i wanted to clarify my statment above, sorry yall english is not my first language and i think in arabic then type my thoughts in english so some details get lost in translation ::smirk1
Your issue is that you're relying on the radio to deliver rap music to you, because it causes you to miss out on masterpieces like MM...FOOD, The Forever Story, L.A. Riot, etc.

...also Hot Shower by Chance the Rapper is a guilty pleasure of mine. That one's just really really funny.
