RMG is a very good and easy to use frontend for mupen64plus. The interface is similar to other standalone emulators, comes with the best plugins and ready for use, has cheat database, etc.
Is the third most recommended on the Emulation Wiki.

Actually I use Parallel Launcher, it's a great FrontEnd but I wish emulators had good GUI more often.

Emulating 64 sucks.

Depending of which emulator, nowadays it got better like the Saturn and Xbox.

I heard Ares is good.

I use Ares for the Genesis but this seems good as well. I still prefer platform specific emulators.

We have had rapid MiSTer FPGA development for it, 2 FPGA clone consoles are coming out, cheap flash carts are making the rounds, and homebrew is happening on it. Software emulation will improve.
