I will start. Ghost dog: the way of samurai (1999) is such an awesome film but I am 100 percent sure the reason it didn't do that well financially is because A) The title sounds like one of those straight to dvd action film with no effort and,
B) This poster doesn't help either.

Another I can think Of is Takeshi Kitano's Outrage Coda. Everyone i know seems to love all outrage films and some even say Coda is the best, but my god does it have the worst poster out of the entire trilogy.

Ah, man. I actually have my favorite "good poster but bad movie" one that I even hanged the poster on my wall but I really dislike the movie lol but I guess it's for another thread.

Excluding the generic "people's faces and/or bodies floating in air" posters, if I had first seen these movies' posters I wouldn't really watch them and then they wouldn't be in my "best movies" list lol:

This one never sat right with me, bad's not the right word. But it doesn't really have anything to do with the movie.

Ghost Dog did well, it grossed over 4 and a half times its budget. It's just that it was a pretty small indie movie. I agree the poster isn't great, the title isn't generic at all though. What other title does it remind you of?

As far as Outrage Coda, maybe they were going for something like the '70s yakuza movie posters where there's usually 50 people on it with knives and guns. They just did it without the style.

Damn, Faye Dunaway grew quite a beard.
