Ports of your favorite games

Did you like them? Were there any changes? One of my favorite games is Shin Megami Tensei, it had quite a few ports. Oddly enough, I remember my favorite being the IOS port that's no longer available. Playing it on my phone was great. I got in my possession the PC ports of Persona, its known to be the worst port of the game but I still like having them.

Little trivia in Revelations: Persona, the NA release, the protagonist had red hair! I liked it.​

I played the PS1 port of Rayman 2 and it was such a mess, all the stages were trimmed down, entire sections removed, the only positive if you want to call it that, was that they added voice acting.

The Chrono Trigger for DS, in my opinion the definitive way to play the game. It adds new shit and makes it more enjoyable (more than it already was lol) I don't know if this counts but the Gran Turismo 2 for Dreamcast was for a long time the definitive way to play the game, it looked good and was faster than the original. GTA2 and Tony Hawk too were better there but these were official. Had a lot of fun with that shit

The first time I played my favourite game ever, Sonic Adventure, was through the Gamecube port. It isn't a very optimal way to play the game – the "improved" models and textures look way worse than the original – but I'd never own a Dreamcast at that point anyways, so I'm still kind of grateful for it. It also included the full versions of every mainline 8-bit Sonic game, which gave me a great foundation to get into the series with. Years later, I'd purchase the PC version on Steam (and cheekily install the Dreamcast mod pack), which is considered the definitive edition of the game, and then emulated the original through NullDC to pay my respects. SO (high-quality, censorship-free, reasonably-priced) PORTS ARE A-OK WITH ME!!!!

I also owned Sonic Gems Collection which, in addition to having a horrible port of Sonic CD that tainted my view of the game for years along with the 8-bit games I already had on Adventure DX and some shit Genesis games that weren't even good the first time around, had the best version of Sonic R. (Don't listen to anyone in that Saturn thread!) It also included some cool remixes of classic Sonic tunes, and a full collection of terrible comic covers! Gems Collection sucks, but it still has a special place in my withered heart. ? Oh, and then I had the Sonic Classic Collection on DS, which is how I got into the Genesis games! The amount of money I've spent on Sonic ports is troubling... but I'll make it work.

Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap, the sprite work is just "chef kiss"
One of those games that made me love the GBA alone, I don't know why but it just looks so clean
I replayed it quite a lot cause...why not?

Dude no way, I didn't know you could unlock a 2D version at all. That's so cool, I need to check it back again.

I had the DC version of that game and suggested to a friend who had a PS1 to pick it up...

I actually really liked the GBA port of Jet Grind Radio, and I even beat it.

There's also a rather delightful (although, obviously unofficial) port of Fallout 1 for flip phone that's surprisingly well-done.

The latest Mega Man classic collections are very well done. As long as you have a decent d-pad on your platform on choice I would probably say that it's the definitive way to play the games. Capcom in general releases really good ports of their old games imo.

Actually, speaking of, the second Mega Man Classic Collection on PC has a game-breaking slowdown bug that Capcom never patched! Always do your research before buying these things – Capcom is currently in one of its Mr. Hyde phases.

Was it the collection for PSP? Even though I love Power Stone I never actually got that collection.

I have never heard of that game breaking slowdown. Do you have any more information about it? It's difficult to search for online since Mega Man is already full of slowdowns as it is lol

My favorite port of all time is the PS1 port of Diablo. Graphically it's weird, all of the world graphics, enemies, and player are all clear graphical downgrades from the original PC version, however there are brand new beautiful fire/spell/particle effects laid over the top that really tie everything together. Also everything is sort of blue, it's hard to explain but if you've played both versions you'll know what I mean, everything has this blue tint.

But it has couch co-op. It turns the D1 experience into something more akin to Gauntlet Legends, like an isometric beat 'em up with a friend rather than a relatively stiff and methodical crawl. Really the whole thing kind of feels that way due to the controller support, it fundamentally changes the way the game is played.

Here are two discussions about it on the Steam Community boards – search through that forum, and you'll find several more that describe what I was facing. Apparently, it's an issue with Steam Cloud, as the game is online-only for region locking purposes. Great! Pricks. ?

Kind of disappointed with the fighting collection but I kind of get it since some of the things might've not aged very well and they have a reputation to consider. Thankfully nothing that will have no big impact of my personal enjoyment so I will probably get it regardless.

Of course it's the always DRM messing up Legacy Collection 2. I really wish Capcom would stop with that kind of DRM since it's not the first time it has severely messed up a game of theirs. I already have it on PC but if they don't patch it out I might've consider getting it on a console platform instead. :/

The GBA had loads of good ports of PS1 games. Rayman 3 was quite fun.

1) Since it is not specified, I assume that homebrew (fan made) ports are included: in this case I will name some ms-dos fps games for my beloved DS Lite, such as cQuake (port of  Quake), DScent (port of  Descent) , JfDuke3d (port of Duke Nukem 3d), cHeretic (port of Heretic), Dual Hexen (port of  Hexen), and DS Doom (port of  Doom).

2) Instead, regarding some official ports for my beloved PSP3004, I will name 2 shoot'm'ups:  Parodius Collection, port of the SNES/PSX titles and  Gradius Collection, port of the 4 arcade titles.

I'm not sure if these count as ports but the PSP versions of Star Ocean 1 and 2 are up there for me.
