Mine got overshadowed so I guess I'll reply to it in case someone wants to take a crack at any. I'll add an extra or two

-Magician crashes out and turns people to stone
-Magician crashes out and turns people to crystal
-RPG where you gaslight employees
-Tiny dinosaur thing throws stars
-Man turns into a robot or Woman turns into a Castlevania protagonist mixed with a fairy and enter a fever dream
-Girl kidnaps fish with a grappling hook
-shooting pirates out of the sky while rock music plays
-fighting a UFO
-lesbian accidentally gets burned alive so the villains have an eternal grudge against you and your brother
-beating up sentient water
 
A guy swallows 2 other guys and then beats a guy who looks like the guy who swallowed those 2 guys form before
 
Well, first attemp was too vague, so here is one more easy

Falling into a cave lets you learn how to unravel the laws of reality while making friends just because you are stubborn in a good way

Close in a way, but sadly, nope.

Here's a couple more hints.
  • Said preteen also discovers the horrors of card games in said MMORPG.
  • The game is licensed, and offered sneak peeks at other furries down the line.
  • The PAL version was arguably better.

Magic: The Gathering - Battlegrounds?
 
Nope, both are incorrect. More hints.

  • Yu-Gi-Oh wasn't far off, there was a PS1 game around the time this game was released.
  • Some claim the show was better than the games, compared to a contemporary of it.
  • Of the available furries, there was a lot more in the in-game card game than you could have go on adventures with the preteen.
  • Not unlike RuneScape in a way, the preteen could gain two skills of his own in the MMORPG: fishing and... kicking trees? Both were really only useful for grinding the card game, though.
