I agree with you on Team Flare. Even as a kid, I thought they were pretty forgettable.

I've only completed Pokemon Ruby and I must say, Team magma is totally ridiculous, their grand plan is is pretty much to destroy the planet because they're too stupid to realize that's what going to happen if they make the volcano erupt. I don't even want to know why they're not at the bottom of the tier list.

Everything is a downgrade after Team Rocket.

They were the only ones who had a believable - if limited - in-universe plan to rule the world.

I've had this bit of a conversation before, and since I may not have a better opportunity to share this tale.

What if, Team Rocket was the good guys? Boom, to catch your eye.

Think of their world, they were recovering from a war, Kanto VS Johto, both nations fought until neither could continue, having been coerced into a cease fire by the northern hegemon, Sinnoh, forbidden from militarization in the formal sense.

They didn't ban Pokemon Trainers, or a league for "Sport" that also happens to be pretty much their government, which happens to have ties with Team Rocket, which happens to have ties with every major company, and scientist in the nation, even Mr Fuji! Even Sabrina, even Koga.

This has ties with real world story, with Japan, about the demilitarization but that's for your own curiosity.

What led to the war? Among the many, be it cultural, prior tensions, territory, the one that truly made that war more destructive and significant than ever before was as always, technology being abused.

The Poke Ball, Professor Oak's very own invention allowed for the industrialization of Pokemon Warfare, prior to these taming, storing, moving Pokemon was a very difficult feat.

To have control with a Pokemon prior these you had to have a special bond with them, taking the effort of taming them, or be more specialized like Sir Aaron.

Then again, even if you did have one or a few friendly Pokemon on your side, the six Pokemon thing is only a rule, for us, for sport, not for a war.

With Poke Balls they could move, the biggest and most dangerous of Pokemon literally on their pockets, pocket monsters, imagine how one simple invention changed so much for their warfare, and such the magnitude of the losses.

Those who didn't perish in the trenches, didn't have it much better with the period of decay after the war, needing to rebuild, repopulate, the stragglers left loose with a broken nation, destroyed economy, about every man that was drafted gone.

That's where Team Rocket comes in, they pick the people, they gave them jobs, even worked with their emerging government as to color code their men, those who wear black? That look like any other thug you may imagine? Done completely on purpose, that uniform signals to the government who to arrest, they never were truly members of Team Rocket, they were disposable, pieces used for propaganda.

The White Uniform however, is truly the team rocket, when Giovanni disbands Team Rocket, mostly those of black uniform continued in Johto, even the manner of which they operate and goals are completely different than those of the real Team Rocket which is part of their sad joke, they never were Team Rocket awaiting for a man who would not come.

The REAL Team Rocket operation was being an engine of their economy, to unite the people within their nation, to protect the world from devastation, to reach the stars and above.

And everything they actually did lead to those things, every other faction, be it Plasma, Flare, Galactic wanted to destroy the world, Team Rocket wanted to preserve, yes for profit, they need a FUNCTIONING WORLD, to profit of, which is why in many occasions we've seen Team Rocket attack, and sabotage the others operations.

As for reaching the stars? Team Rocket was been uniquely tied to progress, from evolution via radio waves, to Silph CO, to the master ball, to MewTwo who is only one step towards making something to face against the whims of the GODs of their world who would destroy civilization on a bad day just for the kicks of it.

Remember how many Team Rocket Members in the games, insisted that you were a child, too young to understand? They were kind of right, that isn't to say there aren't evil excesses, there were many, some even Giovanni wouldn't approve of, IE The mother of the Cubone.

And this last part is more of my reading, where Team Rocket, and their financing of the PokeDex and the Bill Storage System was used by them as to monitor which invasive species of Pokemon existed in the region, and which dangerous ungodly pokemon appeared within their borders.

Which is why the Lavender Tower was removed, once not only Ghastly nor Haunter, but also GENGARS began appearing in it, when we get there, they were flooding the place not only with operatives, Mr Fuji, but if you haven't noted a TON of exorcists cleansing the place for the new radio tower, removing one very dangerous species of Pokemon from their region.

Kanto was that safe, in comparison to being eaten by a sand castle, or kidnapped by a balloon because of Team Rocket. WOW!

And Giovanni had reasons to work this much, for one he had either one and possibly two children Silver, and if you accept a musical as canon, which I do, Ash.

Which explains why Jessie and James, have not been fired, besides that one insurance scam Giovanni nearly got them killed on, they're his baby sitters across a very dangerous world, and his VIPs, if he's taking money from James own rich family, and providing James with what he wanted, to keep away from his fiancee, his parents, and an exact duplica of his fiancee but with a better personality, while also giving Jessie a job, as to repay a debt to her mother, for the mismanagement of Madame Boss, without signaling preference to criminal rivals that would abuse of such ties, same as Silver, as a weakness.

And you my dear reader have been LIED TO, by every other nation in this franchise, each of them has been guilty of chasing after a new edge for war, be it mega evolutions, be it dynamaxing, z moves, tetralization, etc.

Kanto had none of that, only it's people, which is why they focused on the system that even with the poke centers being subsidized, would lead to the best trainers.

I agree with you on Team Flare. Even as a kid, I thought they were pretty forgettable.

They claim to have flare yet the flared out ;) forgettable truly.
