I saw there was an old thread for the Wii games having an English patch, so I thought why not make a general thread for all games? (Red/Blue Rescue Team, Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky, Gates to Infinity, Super, DX, etc.)

I'm sure we all have some thoughts & fond memories with these games, so I'd like to hear them!

i always get pikachu for my personality test

It’s really weird how Red Rescue Team was on the GBA, and Blue Rescue Team was on the DS. Why they did this release strategy is beyond me, im guessing Nintendo still thought the DS wasn’t going to succeed at the time of their release?

I remember playing the red rescue team but my battery save is died now I never which quite sad because I really have good state (my character is Charmander)

I love Mystery Dungeon Red

Unfortunately, Explorers of Sky's writing got a little on my nerves on how stupid they made the Panther

It may be a TRANSLATION ISSUE, but some parts of the game they keep repeating the same thing over and over again to the player! Like the player is some kind of idiot

Yeah unfortunately that aspect diminished my enjoyment for the game!

I need to replay it with a BETTER English translation! Maybe some existing mod does this?

i did some checking. it seems to be the usual thing with pokemon. 2 versions with a few mons exclusive to each version. the ds has better sound and graphics quality and touch screen controls.
the ds was out for about 2 years at this time and the gba was slowly getting ready to be discontinued. red rescue team is supposed to be the last official release for the gba.
that seems to be the main reason for the bizarre release. they were simply covering the widest amount of potential customers with their newest release.

This game is peak. And I've only played the first installment. I much prefer the remake's QoL changes but I still go back and play the original. I even did a run of this game recently and I never realized how short it was.

(I made sure to not upload non-spoiler/non-context images of my playthrough)

This streamer did a full randomised playthrough with some post game stuff as well and it's awesome. They probably aren't gonna appeal to a lot of the user's on this site but imo this is pretty peak content for when you're drawing, animating, or like tired but don't want to sleep just yet.

CARCINOGEN is a good channel as well

I gave them a shot once years ago but it never clicked with me, now I wonder if I should give them another chance since I do like dungeon crawlers.
I feel like you should, you could start with Red/Blue Rescue Team since it is shorter. You don't have to do a lot of backtracking like in EOS (there's also so much content in the second game, which is why I love it so much but the OG games are a great starting point.) I also think the first game has a good story, Sorry if this is a spoiler, but Gengar's character ends up being pretty interesting.

Often, Mystery Dungeon's main story is shorter, as the series opts for a greater amount of postgame content. This is even moreso the case for the Shiren games, which is Chun Soft's original Mystery Dungeon IP.

I greatly enjoy PMD, albeit it has been a while since I've played the series. I've only played PMD1 and 2 - probably due to my preference towards the GBA/DS graphics. These games were a huge part of my childhood. The music is a big highlight for me.

These are certainly my favorite Pokémon spin-off games, alongside Pokémon Conquest.

It's for cross gen since the DS was merely out one year and the GBA slot could still be used for transfer and perhaps for kids who didn't get a Dual Screen yet.

Remember that it was a third party dev, Chunsoft, who made them so maybe they had started it on the GBA before making a port to the DS late in dev.

What surprises me is that so far Mystery Dungeon 1 and 2 were the only spin-off Pokémon games to have two parallel versions (+ a third complementary one for the second) like the mainline entries, it shows how important they saw that one.

I've played Explorers last year (or two years ago?) and I got the two 3DS entries and hope to get the DX remake on the Switch soon.

The Mystery Dungeon is more of a super-franchise including many IPs + an original one called Shiren the Wanderer

My mind was absolutely blown the first time I ever set eyes on red rescue team. "A pokemon game? But it plays different?" The fact that you could seemingly be any pokemon was amazing. I could barely contain my excitement when I took the quiz and landed on Torchic. I would then start the adventure over and over as different characters to see whats changed etc. Pokemon explorers of Sky absolutely kicked my butt when it came out, I kept getting stuck at the same dungeon no matter how many times I restarted it. Only recently in the last few years I got fed up, picked up my ds again and pushed myself right over that hill.

It may sound stupid but I felt less immersed in Mainline Pokémon games simply because I'm playing as a trainer giving orders to pokémons and not the pokémons themselves.

Yes I know, the entire point of Pokémon is to collect them all but I'd totally be for an actual pokémon game where you get EXP and new abilities for your character but that would make collecting harder (that's also why Mystery Dungeon had a "recruiting system" instead of catching with pokeballs).

Let me guess: is this the level with the forest where time has stopped?[/spoiler]

I had so many good memories playing Explorers of the Sky.

I know that Gate To Infinity is considered to be the weakest entry (mostly because of the jump to 3D and the almost exclusivity of Gen V mons in it).

I wish we got a third entry on the DS with Gen V but alas... At least the fourth game was better (not Explorers level but still).

I really enjoy playing Red Rescue Squad on my GBA. Really easy to pick up and play, it's a main stay on my Retroid Pocket. The Switch version is cool, but the art style always felt...off? Maybe it's because I used to play rogue before, so that pixel looks appeals to me.

It did open up more Mystery Dungeon style games to me though to mess with.

That reminds me that I have the translated hacks of the Wiiware ones to do.

Not really great compared to the DS entries yet interesting to see. The models are the same as Rumbles I think.

Honestly, there are times where I think about starting the Wii games since I really miss older style PMD, but they're not as short as I thought they'd be. I don't think the story for these games isn't all that special either, so I feel like playing them wouldn't be as fun lol.::cirnoshrug

I'll do them mostly for completion.
