Pokémon Gold have always been a highlight in the Pokémon series and even now, decades since they were originally released, they remain a truly brilliant experience.

Perhaps its indicative of the series' slow-and-steady iterative approach, but this game feel just as good as it was all those years ago.

A fantastic game that evoke warm, fuzzy memories for anybody who played it all those years ago.

Updating the original with a gorgeous splash of colour on GBC, adding 100 new Pocket Monsters, and throwing in the entire Kanto region for good measure (thanks, Satoru Iwata), even people who adore the entire series have been known to argue that Pokémon peaked at Gen II.

Pokémon Gold were released in Japan on 21 November 1999 as the second set of titles in the Pokémon series. This game which were the first title in the Pokémon series to be designed for the Game Boy Color, will be recreated in their Virtual Console versions so their screens appear just as they did on the Game Boy Color. Players will be able to enjoy playing it just as they remember playing in earlier days.

One of the best Pokemon games I've played, even though I've started with Crystal. It's still a really great sequel!

yes ... the Gold Experience ✨ indeed ~ ...

i still can't believe my first time playing gold was practically a shot in the dark ( by that i mean the JP version and being rather clueless at what i was doing haha )
but it was sure fun ! i had to admit the first time entering ruin of the alphs and after solving the puzzle had me a tad spooked o_o lol

IS THAT A JOJO REFERENCE?! ::poggurai

Gold, silver, and crystal are by far my favorite pokemon games to replay. Most content for your buck and its the least hand holdy the series made

Still can't help but wonder how Gold would've been if they had stuck with the spaceworld concept ...
like there was actually some interesting pokemon that shouldn't have been cut !

Silver was my first Pokemon game, though I had Gold as well and did play it a bit... I just preferred Silver.

That said, while I have a really strong soft spot for it, it's far from my favorite in the series. Definitely the most nostalgic one, though.

After playing the hell out of Red and Yellow, my hype for gen 2 was huge. And they delivered on every expectation. Gen 1 is still the most nostalgic to me but Gen 2 is definitely the apex of the series.

this is one of the most insightful videos I've ever seen on the topic of this pokemon generation. They go to most of the associated real-life locations in Japan from the Johto region's inspiration, and explore some ruins and caves. it's handled as an almost National Geographic-style discovery document; on-site footage with extreme knowledge and care. The two dudes that worked on it seem like genuine chillers i would love to engage with
