(Look: I'm sure there's already a thread about this thing - how could it not? -, but the forum just won't take my search query for including the word "Go", which is apparently way too common for its liking — the hell with it, then!).

If there's ever been a shooting star in gaming, then it has to have been Pokemon Go.

For a while there, everyone and their grandma were playing this thing... and you couldn't escape it.

Every single feed I had was filled to the brim with news, articles, tips and tricks about this thing — it was kind of maddening, in a way.

And when my best friend came over, swinging her phone like a baseball bat and telling me all about her recent catches and battles, I knew there was no more "outrunning" this one.

I didn't think much of the game - much to my friend's annoyance -, but it didn't really matter because, just as quickly as it had come, the phenomenon seemed to fade.

Oh! People were still playing it lots, but it was no longer the epicenter of the world — those videos I saw of guys stalking underneath piers or taping their phones to fucking ceiling fans to simulate walking became a rarity, completely buried under the next iteration of digital Pogs (whatever that was).

... It may have been because the devs were psychotic enough to demand you climbed to the top of Mount Everest to complete the dex, but I digress.

What are your thoughts and experiences with something that looked like a dream come true and then was just sorta... there?

Wait I missed digital Pogs? I will need to look into this... (edit, I think I misunderstood ahahah)

With that being said, I never really played Pokemon Go but I have some fond memories of seeing people running around in groups when it first started! And then a couples years ago some people I worked with were still really into it, so that was pretty fun.

Pokemon Go kind of reminded me of the Tamagotchi craze, one day it was there at the top of the world, the next everyone had a Furby... then it was all back to regular life.

Pokemon Go was a weird experience for me, I've always been the gamer guy, so I got the idea it was finally the day I became somewhat popular... but I was less popular than before. Made me feel like old Grampa Simpson except I was never 'with it':

For a personal experience, I think I lived it more vividly with Virtual Reality tech. Every now and then it is reignited, just to comically faceplant into the ground. The 3DS was a cool middle ground and it was the first console I bought with my own money, so it was THE THING for me, but now I just barely play it and is collecting dust in one of my drawers; I even had to buy a new battery because the original one started to swell and damaged the bottom screen, so sad. ::sadkirby

I never played it, probably I didn't even have the right phone at that moment (for a while I used a old classic Nokia, can't remember if it was that time). After that, I never felt the urge to download the app and try it.
