I have seen them from a distance, seeing the Repo and consulting on google I can understand the appeal, what I request is your opinion of the series or a even a specific title within it, also if you have seen any similar games like the PSP Undead Knights.

Thank you
in advance!

Oh a warriors question? Well I’m the right one to ask cuz I happen to be an expert, and I advise playing SW2 if you’re not sure where to start. They’re all great though. I do prefer dynasty Warriors, however.

Please, do elaborate I have come to the conclusion that they are different series.

Since Koei developed both with Omega force I was under the impression that Samurai and Dynasty warriors were the same series but it seems not.

Although similarities do indeed cross over.

Honestly this series only interested me on PS2 and I mostly cared about creating my own character so I only played the best of the best for me.

So that being said I enjoyed playing Samurai Warriors 2: Xtreme Legends but I don't remember the game much. The one I played the most was Dynasty Warriors 5: Xtreme Legends. I especially enjoyed to roleplay as choosing my commander every time I start the game again and experience their situations and creating characters for this roleplay purpose lol.

But if you just wanna play such games regarding tons of enemy you have to kill a lot fast then best game in the genre is Persona 5 Strikers IMO. It goes beyond this genre and adds real-time strategic action by using turn-based elements without turn-based ease so you gotta think millions step ahead in 1 second for every enemy type you see so unlike these genre games you cannot simply just attack and kill everyone. IMO this is the right way to evolve this genre lol. However if you play the game in most easy difficulty it just turns into Samurai Warrior game lol.

most of the "warriors" spin-offs into other series like persona, zelda, gundam, etc. are already on my list rest assured.

So, you can create your own characters? or did I misunderstood you?

Yessssss, you can. It may be limited by PS2's technological limitations but it's not limited by today's greedy and lazy vision therefore in these games you can create your character as much as how much character creation Baldur's Gate 3 and Mass Effect 1-3 allows you lol. Just don't expect Fallout 4 level.

Samurai Warriors is set in Japan around year 1500, Dynasty Warriors is set in China around year 200.
They both star real characters from the history of those countries (ex. Nobunaga Oda for Japan) but they both share the same gameplay (a warrior against many enemies on screen, of course your hero has many abilities and magic and super combo to defeat them all).

The best title I've been recommended on PSP is "Warriors Orochi 2", a crossover between the two titles that puts Chinese and Japanese heroes in a war against a Demon King. If you only care about gameplay and you don't care about plot, I think that one has a HUGE amount of content (main campaign, mini-games, dream scenario, LOTS of characters). In every stage you can switch up to three characters on the fly and I remember I put a lot of hours into it. I'm sorry, but I've never played "Undead Knights".

I know nothing about PS2 titles (only on 3ds and Vita) so I can't recommend anything there.

I know that in "Chronicles" titles of Samurai you can create your own character (like in the 3ds title, that's where I've discovered this series), but it's not like you can customize so much.

Oh, I forgot to elaborate more. They are only different in the sense they follow different mythos. But gameplay is very similar. DW follows the Romance of the Three Kingdoms novel, which is a dramatized retelling of the Three Kingdoms era of ancient China. SW is more about the Warring States Sengoku historical period of Japan. I think both are great but I find DW easier to get into imho.

After getting into them a while back these are the ones I'd recommend the most.

Samurai Warriors 2. Really awesome game, the set of characters they have is pretty decent too.

Dynasty Warriors 5. Really big selection of characters, and the Empires mode is one of the best.

Samurai Warriors 4. I like the gameplay of having two separate characters on the board, it encourages strategic placement and thought about who should take on what situation, also has a big roster. SW4-2 is a bit rough but I'm still going through that one.

Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate. One of the biggest rosters in the series, and probably the best out of the WO side series.

Dynasty Warriors 8. the Lu Bu campaign is worth it alone.

One Piece Pirate Warriors 2. Really captures the style of the series well, and it has some puzzles and such in the world so it's not all mindless button spam.

Really, there isn't too much difference with the series outside of a few gameplay quirks that are exclusive to each subseries, like how starting from SW4 you have these dash attacks that let you move while clearing out peons, or how you have your switchable weapons in some of the Dynasty Warriors games. The biggest differences you'll see is between the Empires games, every one of them have different mechanics. Hope you like them, they're pretty fun to just load up and whack away for a couple hours.

Much appreciated! will try all of them with the exception of the one piece ones, I do not like anime in general that much.

Am familiar with the written works and history of both countries, in fact, that is the reason why I finally bit the bullet on trying the games, I will need to do some catch up, since I like to see the evolution of games myself.

Thank you!
