It is downright abusive! But I think there is a workaround. You can log in to your PSN account on your PC or smartphone, thus foregoing the need to keep your PS4 or PS5 updated.

This is likely more to do with GDPR in europe and whatever the equivalent is in other regions.

By Law, companies cannot keep your data without a reason for a period of time. It's all privacy related. they get fined if they keep that data so this is likely to cover their ass if your account is dormant.

Thanks for the information. I was hesitant about repurchasing Life is Strange cheaply on PC (since I already had it on PS3), now I'm sure I will
