The MSX version is a slightly downgraded version.

- It has lower performance and smaller screen for artworks. It makes it suffer from too long load times. Regarding reduced screen, it does matter for me for it kills the identity of screens and a significant part of the environment sometimes. In this context it's worse than censorship for me. Also there is slight quality and color difference in MSX that I don't like.

- It doesn't support modern sound technology so they had to change sound and music to "ancient technology" stuff for its time.

- Some people may be annoyed that when people talk old games try to imitate voice by using simple robotic beep boop sounds. While you can turn it off in the original version you can't in MSX version.

- 1 scene changed, probably because of how much screen size MSX can display, and made some differences like a russian text in the original version turned into Japanese but romaji text in other ports.

I guess these are all the significant changes, otherwise no censorship or content change whatsoever. Later ports reduces gore and pervert stuff in by changing a teen character's age to adult age to ruin Hideo Kojima's pervert dreams he wanted to realize in his video games lolol.

So why a person shouldn't pay MSX version mostly about the screen size reduction and very low performance when PC-88 is better, but then MSX is the best way to play English version of the game.

MSX version is so ancient it sounds like church music + truck while PC-88 version is richer that music comes from future!!!! lol

Pc Engine version is is like MSX version 2, Sega CD version is higher quality church music and Saturn and PS1 versions sound like my Mexican amigo dying in wild west ayy lmao.

I see. Well, is there any news about a translation for the PC88 version? I've once saw a rom called "Snatcher PC 88 ROM EN" around, but I think it was clickbait.

I wish I could play this version, but since I can't, I think I will go for the MSX one. Thing is, though I am not old, I've been waiting forever to play this game, so I am kind of tired. Not the best version, but at least it was translated...

For some reason this "EN" rom exists around but is not English at all.

As for translation, some people started it but it's not clear why they didn't continue or they translated the game but only used it for their own personal usage. But the thing is MSX has a big community in non-Japanese part of the world which is why MSX translation was certain to happen, MSX has big translation thing going on but PC-88 is relatively not known much around outside of Japan. So people started translation projects but they may have actually hit a road block no one can help them due to a lack of a dedicated enough community for PC-88. And then the way the original version PC-88 one lacks Act 3 but Sega CD version having Act 3 and an official English translation is a good reason why especially when MSX version's English patch exist not many people would bother translation the PC-88 version at all. I don't think there is a hope for PC-88 English translation.

In short, all you can do is finding a way to translate PC-88 version as you play via Google Translate, Gaminik and whatnot or play the MSX version until the end of Act 2 and continue with a version you prefer that has Act 3 or play the whole game with a version that has Act 3. Since the best English translated version that has Act 3 is Sega CD version it's what I would recommend.
