I'm a big Astro Boy fan. The 03 and the 80s show is peak. I got into it all thanks to Mega Man.

One of the few GBA games I actually own. A real treasure made by Treasure.

I didn't like the official english dub of the 2003 show due to Sony gutting the magnificent Japanese OST.

I got a really good fansub. I surprisingly found a legitimate blu ray of the 80s show, brand new too. Might still be in print.

I need to get into the older Astro Boy series but I've barely read several chapters of the manga (including the Strongest Robots in the world).

Treasure wasn't in their best phase in the 2000's post-Ikaruga but they made several good games on the GBA and they often did good adaptations.

I didn't mind the Tiny Toons beat'em up game but it was clearly a prototype to that Astro Boy one in the gameplay (if not reusing the same engine).

One thing I'm confused is how the Japanese version has less enemy types and no health bar for the bosses, seems like the game was rushed or something.

Edit: Also be careful because after finishing the game once there's a possibility to go back to various points in the main story as well as other places just so you can get new characters to fill your stats and to get to the true ending of the game. Good luck.

I actually have this on GBA. I've beaten it and it's a great game. It and Gunstar Super Heroes are the best games Treasure made on the system.

The U.S. version Astro Boy: Omega Factor was delayed for half a year since the 2003 anime series hasn't made it into America yet and they were waiting until it did. During that time, the developers worked various improvements to the upcoming english version which is the superior version generally.

Now that I think about it...

The subtitle Omega Factor was a sneaky pathetic hook to grab fans of the 80's series but ultimately doesn't make sense. In the 80's series, Atlas was Astro's clone copy/rival (maybe the inspiration for Mega Man Copy Robot) but somehow got rebuilt with an adult body, a cool looking horse and an electric light saber through a process called the Omega Factor. It also gave Atlas some evil tendencies so essentially, there was an underlying suggestion that the Omega Factor could make Astro Boy cooler looking and more powerful but also evil.

So the subtitle for the english GBA game, has that inherent hidden suggestion built in except the Omega Factor (I think) doesn't even exist in the 2003 series. I watched the 80's series as a child and I didn't grab the GBA game for that. I just found the subtitle Omega Factor annoying and would have preferred the original Japanese subtitle translated: Secret of the Atom Heart.

Never played it (or even heard about it), but hearing it's by Treasure gives me SUCH high hopes — they were kings of their time.

Thanks for the advice!

Ironic that the show itself ended up in a butchered state.

I played through the whole thing including the true ending about a year ago, and I thought it was surprisingly good. And I don't even know anything about Astro Boy. I especially liked the boss variety.

Atlas feels a lot like Zero in a way.

I kinda feel like 00's Astro Boy got cues from Mega Man.

Or just going full circle.

Shame that we never saw an Astro Boy game by Inafune and Capcom...
Thus that's why Mega Man was born. It's a Robocop situation. The first Robocop was supposed to a Judge Dredd film adaption, but they couldn't get the license. Thus Paul Verhoeven made Robocop.

A crossover would've been sick.

As for Astro Boy my small gripe is the lag the game has when you're using the L or R buttons, I understand that the GBA may have been on its knees when this game was made and maybe it's also for a cinematic effect to show how powerful the laser could be.

Protip for new players: don't underestimate the "Sensor" category because some levels are straight up annoying to play without enough upgrades.

I'd also advice powering up the Laster in priority as there are various shmup levels where you could only use it as your main weapon instead of punching.

Complete the tutorial, don't skip it because you will miss a free upgrade at the end (it's only for like five minutes so you will be quickly over it and start the real game soon).

Since Megaman was mentioned in an Astro Boy topic, I coincidentally stumbled upon this:

Apparently, there was a Tezuka/Capcom crossover art exhibit that happened.

Now I want a real Tezuka vs. Capcom fighting game...

The GBA joint is golden!
You might like Dragon Ball Advance Adventure as well. Similar vibes, gameplay-wise.

I liked this boss

Which has a nod to

And
To
Standard Treasure precedure. They always reference one of their other games into another game in some way. Wait until you get to Sin and Punishment: Star Sucessor.

My brain fried and I taught oh you beat Astro Bot and think it´s a gem well apparently it´s game of the year good "which I think is bullshit"

But then rereading the title it was Astro boy not bot >.<

Both are gems in my eyes for different reasons.
