Jeez, this game was such a bloody hit! I can't belive it's been three years already.

First I heard of it's name, it wasn't even the actual game, but a FAN MOD someone made of it for Sonic Mania.
I thought it was neat, but at the end it was still just a mod over Sonic Mania. ::cirnoshrug

Well, color me surprised!
It wasn't until the actual thing came out that I realized it was an actual game of it's own merit, and boy oh boy is it a good game.

People compare it to Wario Land 4, and I definitely see the similarities, but it's so fast-paced that I don't think a simple comparison to Wario makes it justice. I'd say Pizza Tower is what classic Sonic games would be if they didn't heavily feature loops and tunnels (except for the treasure-collecting part, of course).

Personally, I'm not big on it's art style. Those 90s CN shows weren't always my vibe (maybe because I grew up watching re-runs), but credit where credit's due: this game has details to the point of absurdity!

But anyway, have you played this?

I really appreciate the love and care that clearly was poured into this but never managed to play it through. I'm just so rarely in the right mood for this kind of fast-paced mayhem in my video games.
The ost is real good too by the way and I have listened to it a lot on its own.

Antonblast is another game you should probably check out if you liked this one. It might be a bit more wario land inspired instead of sonic.

I really enjoyed what I played of it. The animations are so fluid and the gameplay is so frantic and kinetic. The music is probably the best part for me, but yep gotta say it is an exhausting experience. I can only play a few levels at a time. Once they introduced all of the additional trials and unlockables I felt a bit overwhelmed, but I'll still go back and play it here and there and have a tonne of fun. A great game for kids and those who can keep up with its pace.

Pizza Tower is hands down my favorite game of 2023 and my GOTY from that year. The level design, soundtrack, gameplay, mechanics and the art style and character designs are absolutely flawless!

I haven't had this much fun playing a 2D platformer since I played Sonic Mania back in 2017. It's so damn addictive and enthralling! (I played this game for the first time back in the summer of 2023, and it was an incredible experience!)

The soundtrack for this game is absolutely incredible, and there isn't a single bad song in it! (Pizza Tower has by far one of my all-time favorite video game soundtracks)

McPig is a genius! A truly brilliant developer and game designer.

The artstyle of this game was what threw me away from the game in the first place to be honest. I get the argument of how art in videogames can be depicted as gross or disgusting to highlight a certain type of vibe or atmosphere. Not that I think it's atrocious, just that it shaves me and a few others from that equation of potentially liking the game.
But then again, artstyle, even pretty ones have been a source of contention, just look at the debacles surrounding Wind Waker in it's heyday for a hilarious example of it ::sailor-embarrassed

It also felt way too speedrunner focused to me, and from a close friend's perspective who was given the game and played it himself, much loving Wario Land as we both did. That was his thoughts on it, and I'd also agree given the gameplay footage I've seen of it. Anton Blast was a much more effective looking Wario Land ish game to me and vibes with me better.

I respect it as a video game that feels distinct from the mold of indie games these days, but it just wasn't for me.

The boss fights in this game are so damn good, bro. The fights against the Vigilante, The Noise, Fake Peppino, and the final boss (Pizzaface) are some of the greatest boss fights I've ever seen in a video game. The final boss fight against Pizzaface gave me such a thrill I couldn't believe it.

This game just oozes personality and style!

@Aldia To answer your question honestly, I've never played it, but I want to. I found a video of a guy playing and I loved the game; it looks like a mix of Sonic and Mario, and it seems really fun.

This game gives me that very specific vibes of nailing everything in a run and just completely hyperfocusing and zoning out, dodging every obstacle out of pure made up instinct and finally mastering the level after too many screw ups.

Mastering levels of this game with the highest rank is therapeutic even. It's just too good, too smooth, too fast and so chaotic that it becomes rhythmic.

..and I certainly wouldn't want it any other way, excellent food for sonic type autism :)

I can't play those games anymore, my hyper-focus became so developed that I cannot leave a single item or choice behind, it's a sad reality.

I consider Pizza Tower to simply be a masterpiece. I seriously can't think of anything you could call "bad", just every aspect of this game has been worked to perfection.

At first I actually kind of snubbed the game, between seeing it all over the place (not a fan of getting spammed with something constantly), and my first impression of the game not living up to what I was expecting (all the talk about it being a spiritual sequel to the Warioland games made think it was gonna be similar to them, so like a more slow-paced explorative platformer, than a frantic and acrobatic run-and-jump), I initially put the game down.
I'm glad though to have given it another try and stuck with it, because I had so much fun playing and completing PT (All S ranks, baby), it had been years since I had last played such an enjoyable and well-crafted game. It just brought me back to the days of playing weird and fun PS1 games, y'know?

I didn't even know it existed before this post, but it looks like an early nineties graphic adventure (visuals-wise)... And that's a great thing.

i loved how zany that game is. i say this about a lot of video games, because of my giga huge backlog, but i should really go back to playing that game.
Post automatically merged:

also i want to add that "it's pizza time!" is the most frantic, "hall your ass", "OH SHIT WE GOTTA GO OH SHIT OH GOD OH MAN OH GOD OH MAN!" type song i've listened to.

I heard about Pizza Tower a little before it released but I didn't really know anything about it until I played it in the summer of 2023, and for a while this was in love with it.
After a while, a modding community started making some cool stuff with the game, I even tried to make a mod for it myself.
I wouldn't recommend you interacting with the community but if you've played through the game and you want more, you could consider playing one of the demos since some of them are nothing alike with the final game.
