i used to hate doing any type of pixel art purely out of how tedious it can be, but after getting into GB studio development late last year its been growing on me a lot. I also picked up Aseprite around the same time which totally changed my outlook on pixel pushing, its definitely not required for pixel art but having a dedicated art program for it makes the process really relaxing. been getting into the habit of putting on a random 4 hour long youtube video while i hack away at whatever piece im working on. has me feeling like an old lady playing solitaire all day but when im done i have cool art :D ( not to disparage solitaire loving old women, love you grandma)

questions for other pixel artists:
- do you use a tablet or mouse? i thought tablet would be the easiest approach but for smaller works i find mouse + line tool work best for me (all the pieces above are like 90% line tool 10% dithering)
- what program/s do you use
- do you use a color palette or do you just feel it out? all my works are monochrome so GB studio can interact with the art properly but i'm also not that confident with color picking so i stick to retro palettes mostly

anyways thanks for coming to my ted talk, post pixel art pls this is urgent

I did a few pixel arts using this,

It was my first time, created a few drawings like a burning rose, characters, animations etc.

oh cool ive been looking for a good pixel art app, ill have to try this one out !

I agree - pixel art is incredibly relaxing. I prefer mouse unless I'm blocking out a large area as it's more precise, unless you're some sort of degenerate who zooms to 1000%.
My favorite tip is that you keep a 100% magnification preview next to what you're working on. It's hard to notice the impact of huge mistakes like banding/pillow shading at high magnification.

I use Usenti, but I wanna get used to Aseprite or GraphicsGale for animations. The issue is that I'm addicted to being able to access a third palette swatch using middle mouse button. In the 16 bit style it's standard for a space to be base, shadow, and highlight, so you can render a whole area without having to fiddle with the palette .

Man, I haven't sat down and made pixel art in a while. I should get on that some day.
Mock-ups are probably the most fun thing to make for me. Here's this GBC-inspired one:

it would be nice to do a pixel art ressources thread, i know a lot of tutorials exists out there but since people also do romhacks here it might be nice to have something with ressources from multiple people.

I started learning how to use IDraw3 when working on RPG Maker 2000 projects back then:

I also used it for other pixel art projects and animations:

Haven't done any pixel art recently, unless this "Surprised Pikacube" counts (made with a Gan Mosaic Cube set):

But I might start learning Pixelorama if I have a new project in mind.
