One of the known things about me that you might or might not know, is that I am a wanna be reviewer. It was all thanks to a person that I had met for a while know in a community that we both don't really engage with anymore, and it inspired to be to become for now, a part time reviewer on Backloggd, and eventually a full time one in and outside of this, wishing to go all out on not only reviews about gaming but also electronics and technology, aswell, fitting more into my overal personality of someone who is addicted to technology as a whole. Here
Here is my profile on Backloggd if you're interested! I'm almost hitting at five hundred games played, and my reviews I take seriously... Sometimes. Some are the best reviews I've ever written, meanwhile some are just... Outright jokes. But I plan to slow down a bit of the latter and focusing more on being a passionate reviewer of all, posting whatever I post on there on here through this thread. There's even a chance where I might even work on something from this site that I also post on here! I already have something in the works for this site, but I do need to... find some people for it, so stay tuned.
I need to also find more reviewers, and thank you! I have a bunch of plans set after canceling or putting off aside my review of AM2R. Ill keep this thread alive to the best of my abillity, to even bookmark it.
Sometimes, I forget that there are extremely long reviews that I had worked on, only for them to be uncovered by most people other than me. This review of The Legend of Dark Witch 3:Wisdom and Lunacy still holds up be onw of the biggest reviews of a game that I had made. I also remember the times where people would make no attempts to spoil the game for other people despite its plot being as simple as two words: racism simulator.
Its not that complex compared to a Zelda game, yet a majortliry of those felt like this gane had its own merit that even sharing a almost 100% save file was against other people's morals. But I did the great thing and did what ither asshole would do: ask someone who had a near completed file that didnt want for it ro be shared,.10p% the game and post it online and kept backups of my own. Yes, it derived from someone else, but we all derive feom someone else. Literally.
Just posted a review of my thoughts regarding a classic that people might or might not remember: The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Anniversary Edition!
Tbh, I wished that I had more of a consistent schedule for me to play with the people I had plans to play this game with. I wouldn't mind trying a new set of people coming from this place, but idefk on how that's going to work. Maybe have a separate Discord server for me to have other people to play games with me and other people on? I'm not sure. Because the last time I had touched playing games with other people on a forum, it turned out to be a disaster, and with a game like Four Swords, there needs to be communication at all costs.
I am friends with an indie developer, and I managed to request for his game to be on the Internet Game Database, which is engine that Backloggd uses to show it's games on. The game is HertenHeld and I released a review on the game. Check it out when you can: https://backloggd.com/u/DragonMals/review/2489468/
Been thinking of removing most of my joke reviews recently. I have better reviews in the works, but the recent joke ones on Backloggd felt... personal, and people just don't like when I get personal I guess
The precursor to INSIDE_SYSTEM'S The Legend of Dark Witch series. I don't know if this game was supposed to be an "I Wanna Be The Guy" clone, but this game is way too fucking hard. I cannot defeat this game in the slightest. And considering that the first Dark Witch is essentially this game but...

For my first true exposure to Touhou being in the form of the developer of The Legend of Dark Witch's first game, Touhou Gendanshou: Unlimited Heroes left me with a rotting impression. I know that this is his first game but damn this game looks kinda ugly. And its too hard. Gensokyo has seen better days man, better days.... and i know that therea other Touhou games to play, i just dont know which one to tey out.

Are generally good starting points, so go wild.
First Touhou game I bought myself was Ten Desires. I put the mainline games on a wheel and saw which one won and it was the Miko game for me. I recommend doing the same. It's also the game with Futo in it, if you don't know who that is, she's in Libero's pfp.
The exceptions are games that were either
-too difficult (11, 12, 15)
-spinoffs that are completely different (every game with a point in it is a spinoff)
-the three mainline games that are versus shooters akin to Twinkle Star Sprites as opposed to mainline games (3, 9, 19)
You can buy most of the games on Steam, but they go by their Japanese names and are often overshadowed by the fan games in the results, I recommend visiting the wiki as they have links to the pages.
There's a reason I'm saying most though. Many of the older games fell victim to ZUN losing their source code (or to becoming abandonware, which was what happened to the fighting games before 15.5). Lucky, the games are reprinted often and can be bought in online stores should you want to actually put in effort to wanting to play them legally. They'll require a disc drive, a lot of finagling to get them to get translated to English (or don't), and Windows OS as none of the games are compatible with Mac under normal circumstances. Only exceptions are the original 5 games on PC-98, those are pretty much only available through emulation. Translations come from the site "THcrap". The games that are not available on Steam are:
-Highly Responsive to Prayers (Touhou 1)
-Story of Eastern Wonderland (Touhou 2)
-Phantasmagoria of Dim Dream (Touhou 3)
-Lotus Land Story (Touhou 4)
-Mystic Square (Touhou 5)
-Embodiment of Scarlet Devil (Touhou 6)
-Perfect Cherry Blossom (Touhou 7)
-Immaterial and Missing Power (Touhou 7.5)
-Imperishable Night (Touhou 8)
-Scarlet Weather Rhapsody (Touhou 10.5)
-Hisoutensoku (Touhou 12.3)
-Hopeless Masquerade (Touhou 13.5)
-Urban Land in Limbo (Touhou 14.5)
Forgot to mention that 14.5 is a weird one as well, as it's the only game to be console exclusive (PS4), but PC variants do exist via only stores like many of the modern games. Again, assuming you'll take the time to do all that.
PS: The games are compatible with Steam Deck. They only have playable status in the event you want to input passwords, but other than that, they run perfectly.
PPS: Highly Responsive to Prayers (Touhou 1) is on the "don't start with it" list for none of the aforementioned 3 reasons. It's on there because it is a completely different type of game, a Breakout clone. There's no other Touhou game like it, period. It also hasn't aged the best due to being the oldest game on PC 98, so a lot of flashing lights if you get seizures.

The "released digitally via Steam" words are the direct Steam links for every game's respective page

Once more, if this is all a lot to consider, put the games on a wheel and see which one is left when everything else is eliminated.
This site here is my go to for all of my indecisiveness
Seihou was a weird sister series to older Touhou games composed of ZUN and a small team of devs. ZUN also composed the music of Seihou 1 & 2, but not 3. A few songs from this sister series even show up in the Touhou universe.
-Dichromatic Lotus Butterfly, one of Reimu's consistent themes, originates from Seihou 1
-So does Witches Night, which ZUN accidentally fucked up with trying to recreate it. This led to the creation of Magus Night, the final boss theme of Great Fairy Wars and Marisa's theme in Hopeless Masquerade
-Gensokyo, Past and Present (Yuuka's theme in Touhou 9) is very similar to Flower of Japan (Yuuka's theme in Seihou 2)
-Illusory Science was renamed to Phantom Factory, and this remix is exclusive to an album for Changeability of Strange Dream
The games aren't canon to Touhou, and are kind of a hassle to get working on modern PCs so I would not blame you for disregarding them. Seihou 1 and 3 are both run of the mill bullet hells similar to mainline Touhou games, but Seihou 2 is a versus shooter just like Touhou 3, 9, and 19.
As for Uwabami Breakers, this one was built different. It's a full on collaboration between multiple devs, composers, etc. AFAIK, ZUN's only contribution was the final boss theme "A Drunkard's Lemuria," which ALSO showed up in the Changeability of Strange Dream album, funny that. The game also is a lot faster and has very different shooting mechanics from anything else mentioned so yeah.

My Jaw literally dropped after hearing about this information. This is the second biggest piece of information someone from that community had given to me snd this is very helpful and reliable. I'm bookmarking this!
