Hey everyone,

Curious if anyone here is a fan of Pico-8? If you haven’t heard of it before, is a “fantasy console,” that never officially existed. It’s actually really cool if you ever were interested in making your own games. The games themselves are saved a PNGs and look like little digital cartridges. You play the games in a browser. The whole thing was made by an Australian developer. Anyway, yeah you should check it out. There’s a lot of really cool, interesting, and experimental games out there for it and more are made everyday. I’d love to hear about any games anyone has played and I might share a few that I like a lot here too. If you haven’t heard of Pico-8, think you’ll try it?

Sincerely,

ShadowBadger

I'm interested in trying pico-8 games since I've got an anbernic console, the RG cube xx, and it's main feature is the 720 by 720 square screen, it turns out pico-8 games run at a square aspect ratio as well so the cube XX is perfect for that platform, what are some of your game recomendations for the platform?

We have a general thread about fantasy consoles/computers with some valuable information, but that's all fine if you'd prefer to keep your own thread centered exclusively on the Pico-8 topic I guess! :]

I see, thanks for the info!

I looked around the forum before I made my post and didn’t see this. Sorry.

No, that's all fine. I guess yours works more for ppl who'd like to introduce themselves to the games too. I'll drop some suggestions later!

I adore Pico-8. I got into the scene years ago and it really helped me learn game development. I'm not a great developer on it at all, but I really love seeing the creativity that people have managed on there, highly recommend.

My one frustration is that it's hard to keep up with releases on there lol

I've already tested some pretty cool stuff on the PICO-8 (there are several things available on Itch.io that are actually games for the console). I've also seen some cool stuff on the TIC-80, another fantasy console.

Personally, I recommend Low End, a Guitar Hero-style game. The developer of this game even created button configurations after I commented on his Itch page saying that the original configuration made the game difficult for me.

Love the games honestly.
Usually blow of some steam playing a few games at random.
