You can tell us why you feel that way if you want to but you don' t have to. I'll start

Final Fantasy series. This one was a different numbered entry depending on what part of the world you live in:

That last image is all the cutscenes rolled into one. I got all these images from Fantasy Anime's website. Basically it was meant to be a Sega CD game but at the last minute it was moved to the Genesis/Mega Drive instead. None of those scenes are in order either. lol But it looks cool. The reason I think 4 is the best of 1-4 is because it's the most complete and jam packed out of all of them. You can even take side missions as a Hunter for some sidequests. It has references from the other 3 games even though 3 was made alongside this one to stall for time. They also killed off Alys years before FFVII killed Aeris. It was halfway through the game too. Nobody expected Chaz to take over after that. He goes from being a sidekick to an MC. Rune is just freaking cool. Raja comes off as a jerk but that's pretty much how his people are. It's just the way they operate. Rika is more timid. Alys was sort of tough on Chaz so it was a nice contrast switching to Rika. lol The twist with Seth is AMAZING. Zio reminded me of the bad guys from Slayers. In fact, Alys is a lot like Lina Inverse right down to being a bit greedy when it comes to money when killing monsters and making sure everyone pays her and adding more to the bill when they need to do extra work. lol

Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix

This is how all sequels should be made; you take what worked within the first game and build upon and improve on it. Ditching the awkward platforming of the first game and focusing more on the combat mechanics was a stroke of genius from Nomura and his team. The Final Mix version in particular is an even greater improvement on an already great game. The new abilities they added, Limit form, the puzzle mode, the Roxas fight (Baffling this wasn't in vanilla KH II), the Mushroom XIII challenges, all the secret post-game boss fights and Critical mode (The best way to play the game imo). All this combines into one of the best experiences you can have with an action-RPG.

I'm going to go with one I might not get much agreement on; Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage.

Spyro 2 just feels right to me. The theme. The levels. The hub worlds. The side characters. It all just clicks and makes a great time no matter when I replay it. A perfect sequel that refined all of the good parts of the original and built upon it. I'd argue its one of the best games on the PS1. Spyro 3 just doesn't hit the same mark with me. The levels feel less interesting. I don't like playing the other characters. There's too many minigames to distract from the core gameplay. It's just a less enjoyable package as a whole.

The original Metroid was the first NES game I ever owned, aside from the Mario / Duck Hunt pack-in. It did more to shape my taste and views of gaming than anything else I'd played up to that point. I adored it. Still do.

Then Zero Mission came along and did everything the OG did - but better! And they even included the OG as an unlockable bonus! A total win-win 🥳

I'm more of a Super and Fusion guy, but i get what ya mean. :D

Since the best Final Fantasy and Phantasy Star are already taken I'm gonna say Lufia II. The overall improvement's from the first title were to many to count, plus the Ancient cave even with all of it's flaws is just awesome. I spent way to many hours as a kid playing it trying to memorize all the puzzles and chasing fricking Iris treasures.

I think you can make a strong case for any game from Mega Man X 1-4 as the best one, but I always go with 4. Having Zero playable for the first time, some cool revelations about his past, getting a nice new coat of paint on the series with the sprites updated, great characters like the Colonel, a fair and well designed game, a boss who literally does hadokens and shoryukens and the fact that you can actually fight him with a ride armor, the first appearance of Black Zero, and this awesomeness

Zero was playable in X3... I think? And Black Zero was in X2, maybe...?

It's been a minute since I've played any of them, so I may very well be mis-remembering 😅

I'll always be partial to the first MMX. Took me a minute to warm up to the change of pace and new moves (versus the NES games) when I played it on release, but I got into it soon enough. Still like to breeze through it every now and then, just to prove I still "got it." 🥳

Zero was technically playable in MM X 3, but only for portions of the game. It was Capcom testing the waters before fully committing. It really felt like a test run for them where they weren't entirely sure how to really incorporate him into these games. It was still awesome though.

We saw a fake, Black Zero in MM X 2 as an enemy boss, but MM X 4 started the tradition of it appearing as an alternate color scheme or upgrade for the real Zero.

Yep, those both check out in my old memory banks. I think we're on the same page 🍻
