The Lord Of The Rings trilogy was a phenomenon when it came to the big screen. Won 17 oscars, of 30 nominations, earned almost 3 bi dollars and introduced Tolkien's works to the masses.
I wasn't born yet when Fellowship Of The Ring came to cinema, and after Return Of The King launched, i was only 1 year old. But both the movies and Tolkien's books made a big impact on my life later on. They've teached me about values bigger than one self: friendship, loyalty, gratitude and love. Also displayed great role models that inspired me to be a better man, such as Aragorn, Gandalf, Sam and many others.
But what about you? Did you watch Lord Of The Rings when it first launched on cinema? What was your first contact with Tolkien's works?

Our family was weaned on the 1978 Ralph Bakshi's Lord of the Rings when I was a kid as well as the additional works from Rankin Bass of Thundercats fame: The Hobbit and the Return of the King.. And the Milton Bradley board game was our favorite painful past time.

The Peter Jackson movies just brought it all forward for the normies.

I was first introduced to his work and the world of Middle-Earth through these films. Didn't see them in the cinemas as I was too young at the time, but as soon as they hit VHS/DVD etc. pretty much all the adults in my family were getting copies of them, and like the original Star Wars trilogy; became something I would watch almost religiously lol. They definitely shaped my childhood and inspired me in many ways; whether it was through my drawings and doodles or short stories I used to write as a kid.

There's a cinema in my city that is planning a 12 hour+ marathon of the extended editions of the films. I tried to get tickets, but they sold out within an hour after announcing it

I think this is incredibly sick, these films are truly full of whimsy (and the 1970s version is also excellent) they had really cool games that I also played when I was younger and the movies continue to influence me creatively even to this day. :))

Loved it as a kid, still love it now.

i entered tolkien world by reading the hobbit book, then saw the first movie, read all the lotr books, simarillon and more.

For me they haven't aged at all ( the hobbit trilogy is not that great but still fine though )

One of the best movie trilogies only next to Back to the future and Toy Story, my brother used to own legit DVDs of the trilogy, as in the proper DVD's instead of burnt discs
