Permanent Games

This is going to sound crazy, even probably a little insane, but I GREATLY preferred Diablo 1 to 2. I didn't play Diablo until my 20s and even then I was brought up on WildTangent's Fate demo, which I loved and felt like it improved upon many aspects of the Diablo series (same with Torchlight)
Diablo 1 has its own kinks so i can see why one would favor it over 2.

Also don't even mention RTS games to me. I made the mistake of adding Dune: Battle For Arrakis to my Sega Genesis favorites and sunk too much damn time into it. I also own the C&C remastered collection and I obsessed over it for a very long time (same with Dungeon Keeper 1 & 2, though they're a different animal to C&C)
Hard to believe for a RTS elitist like me but i haven't played the Dune RTS games which well Dune 2 is the grandfather of all RTS.

Oh CNC remastered we expected them to do the same for tibereum sun/Red alert 2 but MFs at EA lost the source code...glad you got to play Red alert 1 in 4k that "comrade?" never gets old

Since then, it's been sitting on my hard drives and I'm waiting for the epiphany, the inspiration to get started
Once you started your real life will end and your witcher life will start!!! Ready your steel sword for non-magical monsters like humans, silver sword for magical monsters like vampires and ready your signs for elemental monsters like specters!!!

lolol

I usually don't bother un-installing smaller games.

I have SD cards for both my Switch consoles, so I've never had to un-install anything there.

My Xbox Series is largely for backwards compatible OG Xbox & 360 games, so I still have a lot of free space left. I've only un-installed Gamepass games after those $1 Gamepass deals run out.

The main console I worry about with space is my PS5, as that is the primary console I play and a lot of the games I have played and would like to play are pretty big installs.

The main games I keep on my PS5 at all times are almost negligible in size:
Vampire Survivors, Shantae games, PS1 & PS2 digital games like Psychonauts, Destroy All Humans & legend of Dragoon.

Plus a few bigger digital games I play now and again/worry about losing access to at some point:
Persona 4: Dancing All Night, Hatsune Miku Future Tone, The Legend of Korra (this game has long been de-listed since I bought it).

PC games first:
Cave story (plus? idk whatever is newest)
Crazy Taxi 3
Sonic generations (original since you know, denuvo)
Melty blood, like every version (i think it's the best fighting game ever)
Fable Anniversary edition
Neptunia rebirth 3 (the best and biggest neptunia game by far)
Ragnarok battle offline (if you don't know what this is, LOOK FOR IT, 2d beat em up with RO elements, 3 player local co-op and it's so much fun you have no idea)

YS 8, prob one of my favorite games of all time, EVERYONE needs to play this at least once in their lives i'm absolutely sure of it.

Phantasy star universe, this mostly stays on my PC since it's rare to find (WITH THE EXPANSION) anywhere online, it's kinda fun, but it has super braindead AI (just pretend they aren't there you'll be fine lol, yes it's offline playable, both main and expansion have story modes offline.

Roms i'll always have:
PS1:
Castlevnia symphony of the night (there's other versions on PSP and etc, saturn version has a playable maria, which btw is NOT the same as PSP/PS4 etc Maria)
Gran Turismo 2 (no clue, even though theres GT7 this feels more "fun" and not at all realistic lol)
FF9, best FF game ever

N64:
Mario 64
Rush 2049 (much better on dreamcast which i actually own a copy, but it's just as fun)
F-zero X
Mario kart 64
Goldeneye 64
Tetrisphere

NES:
double dragon 2,
super dodgeball
River city ransom (only because of 2p local, otherwise i'd play EX on GBA)
Contra/super contra
kirby's adventure

SNES:
Kirby super star (the best kirby game, ds version about the same but i like local co-op)
super metroid
super mario all-stars + super mario world
Yoshi's island super mario world 2
Megaman 7, MM & bass, X 1, X 2, X 3
Dragon quest 1, 2, 3 (SNES)
Zelda link to the past
final fantasy 5 and 6
donkey kong country 1,2,3

Sega genesis/MD:
Sonic 3 and knuckles (best sonic game ever)
contra hard corps
Shining force
Gauntlet 4 (has a RPG quest mode thing, unlike 1,2,3)

GB/GBA:
Sonic advance 2 (2nd best)
Castlevania gba games (all 3)
River City Ransom EX (still my favorite RCR game, shame its singleplayer)
Dragon quest monsters (GBC)
Tetris DX
Golden Sun both gba games
Advance Guardian heroes (not as good as Saturn game but good enough)
Gunstar Super heroes
F-zero GP legend + climax
metroid zero mission and fusion
Zelda links awakening

DS:
Chrono Trigger (best verison of it, has all existing bonus feature from all versions, and anime scenes)
Sonic Rush, best soundtrack (hideki nagamura, aka Jet set radio composer) and boosting thats fun
Tetris DS (EASIEST tetris version i've seen, i've hit max score and had a game going over 3 DAYS)
puzzle quest

PSP:
final fantasy 1 and 2, the BEST verisons of these two with all extra content
FF4 complete also (but i haven't really played it just has about 3 games in one)
Ridge Racer 1 and 2 PSP, cause they're really fun, and later games got very BS.
street fighter alpha 3 MAX (best version of alpha 3 i can think of, most modes and characters)

GC/wii:Gauntlet Dark legacy, metroid prime trilogy, all the mario games in general
Vita just Tales of Hearts R the only exclusive i care for.
Xbox: Jet set radio future
Xbox 360: Guardian heroes remaster, Fable 2

PC games:

NINJA GAIDEN 3: Razor’s Edge
Nioh 2
DEAD OR ALIVE 5 Last Round
Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
Splinter Cell : Blacklist
F.E.A.R. 3
Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown
DISSIDIA FINAL FANTASY NT
Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen
Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3
The King Of Fighters XIII Galaxy Edition

These games will stay in my collection FOREVER (hopefully).

Anything Capcom Fighting game related, Street Fighter, Darkstalkers, etc.
Anything SNK Fighting game related, KOF, Samurai Showdown, Fatal Fury etc.
Any crossover involving any of the above, SNK vs. Capcom, Marvel vs Capcom etc.
Anything Castlevania related
Anything Wonder Boy related
The latest Monster Hunter game

I hate uninstalling games because sometimes I get the itch to play a random game.
I don't want to wait while it installs.
But I don't have an infinity hard drive so I do uninstall some big ones when I'm done.

My universal keeper, as long as it can run it or has a port (Official or Unofficial) and allows me to play it with a keyboard and mouse or buttons and sticks:
Quake 3, on just about any of my family's PCs to benchmark them to see if they can run the game well (and it did help me with fixing the video drivers of my mother's laptop [I did it ever since fixing my main laptop's Vulkan driver. Thank you again, qw90700!])

I also kept Quake 3 on my PS Vita (which was my first ever encounter with Quake 3 and I fell in love with it ever since), it's still crashes randomly as it still is a developing port, but it still is my portable way of Quake 3 and with it most recent update from late last year due to improvements to vitaGL that powers it, it's my reminder that the Vita Homebrew Community could probably bring in a lot of early 2000s games to the system (probably even mid 2000s). (I still yearn for Jedi Academy on the Vita, but I can wait for it)

(I also got into the Dreamcast version, but I won't drag this on, though, I did completed custom extension of that version's rocking soundtrack if interested: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLUEFj8t-QTjhpNO4MaH_CZi75xyJEpHEK)

The keepers for my personal laptops and PCs:
Monster (A kind of incomplete Doujin Fighting game from 2005 ...or 2006 as my game files of the game say so.), because it's my first PC fighting game. I first played it with a controller since coming from the Soul Calibur series and Tobal 2, but I find that playing the with the keyboard (on my smaller, secondary laptop) was much more fun and easier to execute moves with. (Also, I did custom extensions of this game too, he he: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLUEFj8t-QTjgRZK3W8OgwjGHsW2ikcB7f)

SW JK: Jedi Academy, no surprises here, especially if you read my post in hwdoble's 2003 thread or my thread about my Vulkan driver but it was one of my first games I've ever played, it was a blast to play with my brother in Multiplayer on the OG Xbox! (I wish he could play with me again, OG Xbox or PC, but he's too stubborn to play with me even if he was bored!)
But now, ever since getting on the PC version and revisiting the OG Xbox version, I think that the PC version is very much superior since the combat I feel was made with keyboard movement in mind, you can have mods in it, punch in the realistic saber code to COMPETELY chop up limbs (not a mod) pre-Disney style, and get to higher fps counts but I think that a stable framerate is most desirable since in my experience, unlocked performance below the fps target can cause your character's movement to jitter which is also a problem on the OG Xbox version (on original hardware or base Xbox One and One S, I haven't seen One X performance but I know that the Series consoles are at 60 fps) but I still missed the look of the menu on the OG Xbox's version and it was the only console version split screen play and has full Left Analog motions (tilt to walk, push to run) which just helps with the single saber on a controller!

(This probably is toooo long. If you just want to see a quick "why" I love this game, check this out:
)

Those are basically my PC picks but I got console picks too but I'll be quick about them:

OG Xbox: PocketBike Racer, SW JK: JA is my No.1 but this clutches at my No.2 in my childhood!

Wii: House of The Dead 2 & 3 Return, "Just a Wii Remote!?" convenience.

PS2: Burnout Revenge, we're on wreckin' spree!

PS3: Soul Calibur 5, yes, it's the black sheep game of the series but it was my first personal fighting game, and I loved the Character Creation mode.

PSP: Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity (I got a lot to say, skip if you want.), you do know my pixelized avatar is from this game, right? (She's one of my OCs.)

Well anyways, there's something about this game that make my characters feel more alive rather than being separate save slots and its real fun to make them like they are actual characters. Also, this is the biggest focus in action gameplay for Phantasy Star series up to that point (2011) since Phantasy Star Online and it strike a nice balance with the simplicity of PS Online, PS Universe, and PS Zero with the hecticness of the future Phantasy Star games (like Online 2 and Nova).

PS Vita: Ragnarok Odyssey ACE, it's basic in story but I loved the combat and the controls on the Vita version!
Honorable mention: NFS Most Wanted 2012 Vita, its the kind of game I wanted to see when it comes to games on the Vita coming from some games on PS3: near or stable performance, home-console quality content, and good enough visuals. The 2D Lego games spoil my view of the Vita.

N3DS: Pokemon Shuffle, 3DS is a good system for puzzle games to me.

PS1: Gran Turismo 2, it's been a long time since I got into a PS1 game and to be honest, I'm not very comfortable playing games on consoles from the 90's and 80's but coming from Gran Turismo PSP (and being very bored from it and disappointed that there wasn't a Simulation Mode, it was my first Gran Turismo...before The First Gran Turismo), GT2 just surprises me.
(Not to say that that were console games from the 90's that weren't as so but little me was scared from the 3D graphics of PS1 and its 2D capabilities)

My PC is loaded with Retro/Modern Retro FPS like Doom, Duke 3D, Quake, Heretic/Hexen, Blood, Shadow Warrior, Ultrakill, Ion Fury and many *many* more that I'll never wipe. A massive number of Doom Wads too.

I've also got a huge collection of classic Fighting Games and Arcade Games spread between MAME, Steam, and Fightcade that are permanent fixtures too. Stuff like Third Strike, Garou, Last Blade 2, GGXXAC, and stuff like Metal Slug, Raiden Fighters, Dodonpachi, Etc.

Character Action games are a must keep too, with the DMC, modern Ninja Gaiden, and Bayonetta games never off my harddrive either.

My OCD does not allow me to have a game installed if I have completed it on PC. Also, my main PC can't have any games, I like computers being clean outside and inside.

On console, it's ok because it works differently. But I also don't like to have games I finished completely, the cleaner a SSD in any of my consoles, the better :)

anything too big for my PC i keep stored on my external hard drive. If i run out of room on that, i have no choice but to delete something.

One of them is Windows 8.1 which I use to open old games with old hardware and the other one is Win 10 which uses newer games with new hardware. In addition, I have over 100 games that I haven't installed yet (I don't have enough space on my computers; actually, I have space on my old one, but it's not powerful enough to run new games :( )

Hmm, I think differently. I don't have any games on my laptop, only when I'm really playing something, otherwise not.

Back then because my HDD was 40 GB and game sizes were getting bigger I used to put installed games into disc and thus play them on me PC like playing console games. No need to have them keep staying on my PC, me so smartz lol:

DUKE3D, DOOM, Serious Sam: The Second Encounter, Worms Armageddon and I Wanna be the Guy are all main-stays.
I haven't thought about I Wanna be the Guy in ages, I'm getting AGDQ flashbacks! I always meant to check out I Wanna be the Boshy, I'm gonna go do that now.

PC:
-Age of Empires 3
-Ragnarok Battle Offline
-Ragnarok Online
-Simcity 4
-Rayman 2 & 3
-Baldur's Gate: The Original Saga
-Akella's Pirates of the Caribbean
-Serious Sam Fusion

Not necessarily PC:
-GBA The Sims, except Pets
-Various Bombermans, principally 5 and '94 that can be easily emulated everywhere
-SMT Nocturne
-Burnout 3
-Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance
-Plant Vs. Zombies
-The Pinball Arcade
-Diverse Yugioh! games
-DDR and Drummania, although I also played every beatmania IIDX up to 28

Possible candidates that I finished just a few years ago so its too soon to add then:
-Heroes of Might and Magic 3 Complete
-Neverwinter Nights EE

Aww shit me too man I always wanted to play IWTBTB but never summoned the courage haha, good luck G!

Also, Battle Kid: Fortress of Peril is another great IWBTG-esque title which is a little more forgiving than some of the others (emphasis on "a little") ::kefka-48
