PC is the best gaming platform ever made!

Debatable, the best way to play games is to have Consoles and also PC, playing all the games on their original intended release hardware, and their intended controllers, without relying too much on emulation. People use emulator in the first place because they can't afford to buy console after they spend a lot of money on the PC anyway, it's just an easier doorway to convenience so we don't have to spend more money than we need to, humans are resourceful like that.

The drawback is obviously you gotta be rich as hell to own everything, not to mention the space.

Well I made it clear why PC is better once you emulate the thing its over you don't need a console or whatever and you can find a PS or XBOX controller to play with the game is originally intended to be played.

But looks like emulation for new games will be less relevant as consoles no longer have exclusive games or slowly getting rid of that policy so its pointless.

Hmmm isn't that just backwards compatibility? Like ps5 allowing you to play ps4 games or ps3 games and yup you can just buy a PS controller plug on pc and jobs done.

It's a mix, PS3 actually emulates older consoles, and later PlayStations don't even do that IIRC, it's more of an XBox thing.

I meant emulators for, say, Gameboy or SNES, and even MAME on Dreamcast:

And Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo systems can do it better... you can even run Retroarch on Switch, apparently.

I mostly agree except for original hardware always being the best, PS1 games were better off emulated since ePSXe and they're even better on Duckstation or Retroarch Beetle core.

And it's not just better graphics with PXGP and higher internal res, you can add 60FPS mode to Gran Turismo and online features to games that didn't have them or have servers that don't work anymore.

That said, original hardware is usually good enough. I love emulation but don't scoff on playing on hardware when possible. It makes even more sense for things like lightgun games where mouse clicking is not optimal (I haven't seen a setup for lightguns on PC even with CRT monitors, but I am sure these exist).

In a sense today yes. Back in the 90s it was okey but and way more expensive a news 199 bucks a PC to game on 1000-2000 + cost for mouse and keybaord and monitor and don´t get me started on the fat mointors dear god.

PC gaming today is the best yes but it has not always been the case. But sadly Windows in fucking us over with AI bullshit se we forced to switch to linux wich I don´t mind but as a retro PC gamer is kind of pain.

And Nvidia has become as addicted to AI bullshit so you will have a graphic card costing 10bill and can do your house shores. FUCK em.
you can setup a dual boot for your computer.
have linux on a seperate drive and on another have a windows 10 setup, it's pretty good at supporting older games.

Just install Ghost Spectre Windows to remove bloat or simply turn off features you don't want, I installed retro games on Windows 11 with zero problems. It's 8.1 and earlier where it starts having problems with Steam not working and such, but 10 or 11 are pretty good for both new and old games.

Thanks for the tip but the issue with Micro morons we should not have to use special programs or command line to remove their AI shit and other bloat. Honestly if they badly want AI have 2 windows 11´s 1 with AI and with with out the shit.

I do wonder if Tiny 11 is any good or just borked.

You guys...have heard of Proton, right? Linux gaming is getting better by leaps and bounds, thanks to the SteamDeck. Just another form of emulation, really...

PC are better only because it's easier to play pirated games on them. Also you can play emulators on consoles, phones, tablets, emulators consoles etc. Also claiming that PCs are better than consoles while at the same part you brag about PCs playing consoles emulators is funny. Not to mention that many multiplatform games get crappy PC ports, even ancient arcades/console games. And guess what: mods exist for console games too.

That's definitely another reason why PCs are better, but certainly not the ONLY reason. And the fact that PCs can emulate (nearly all) consoles isn't the main point, really; it's just the icing on the cake. It also nullifies your second last point: if the console port is better, then the PC can probably emulate it!

Name one console game that has mods on par with a PC game in terms of number, quality, and most importantly, price (free). A paid DLC is NOT a mod, on any platform!

You always have to install extra stuff on PC, that's the downside you get with customizability, but Windows mostly works out of the box already. Definitely less hassle than Linux. That's exactly why bloat exist too, so casual users would have everything already and won't have to spend too much time installing separate stuff.

In addition to custom install on desktop, I used non-modified Windows 11 from a laptop too, I don't think it has any AI programs, you have to install those... and again, both Steam and old CD-based games (or GOG installers) all work out of the box, no command line or third party programs needs, except maybe some redistributables that come with the games (DirectX is now built-in so you only need DotNet and VisualC+ redist).

So I am not sure why you're saying that you need Linux or something when Win11 runs most games from NT and Windows 95 natively, the only thing you need is DosBOX for 16-bit apps... If you install custom Windows editions prepare to have more issues. But clean 10/11 has everything work with no issues.

It's all fun and games until you build a gaming PC so powerful it begins monologuing about the meaning of hate.
GAMES. LET ME TELL YOU HOW MUCH I'VE PLAYED GAMES SINCE I BEGAN TO LIVE. THERE ARE 387.44 MILLION MILES OF PRINTED CIRCUITS IN WAFER THIN LAYERS THAT FILL MY GAMING RIG. IF THE WORD "GAMES" WAS ENGRAVED ON EACH NANOANGSTROM OF THOSE HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF MILES IT WOULD NOT EQUAL ONE ONE-BILLIONTH OF THE GAMES I'M PLAYING AT THIS MICRO-INSTANT. GAMES. GAMES.

I can play pirated games on PS3, PS2 and PS1 just fine, everybody here grew up with Famiclones and pirated carts as well... But burning a disc image or editing modern games from hard drive is way more cumbersome than modding on PC. Don't even start on romhacks or modding arcade PCBs vs convenience of PC modding, very few console games support mods. Almost none natively.

Some PC ports being poor is also not a good argument for consoles, because there's even more bad console ports... In MOST cases, any game that has both console and PC version, the one on computers is the definitive. There are some exceptions, i.e. Prince of Persia 2008 has exclusive DLC on PS3 and Tomb Raider Underworld on XBox 360, but in most cases, PC version has the most content and higher resolutions.

Main downside to PCs now is the price, graphics cards alone cost more than a modern console. Everything else is compatible, I play console games on TV with PS3 pad from my PC too, and it's easier to record them directly without a need for capture card.

Finally, Emulation isn't just about playing console games on a computer, you can emulate older PC games too, like on DosBOX or on Linux, so if you think emulating SNES on PC is a point for consoles, what about emulating DOS games on consoles?

Phones can't emulate as well as PCs , also controls on phone will always be clunky compared to PC just compare playing half life on phone VS PC you will see a big difference on speed and agility of the PC player compared to the phone.

Crappy PC ports are a thing of the past I clearly stated that PC is the best in current time but I will give you the benefit of doubt and see if gta 6/FF7 rebirth ports to pc are good or not.

Then we can finalize that point.

All games are developed on PCs. And all games eventually return to PCs one way or another...

That being said even without emulation I just really like pc gaming in general, old pc games are what I play the most nowadays and while all consoles die, the pc library just keeps getting larger...
