I can give Jamboree a pass because the "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" actually has DLC tact onto the cost

All of the Switch 2 Edition's that they showed off included new content, it's basically DLC similar to the example you have with FF7. All of the games that are simply getting performance enhancements (Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, Link's Awakening, Mario 3D World, etc) are free.

The PS5 enhanced upgrades are only $10, but you get an entirely new game sometimes. Like upgrading from The Last of Us Part II to the remake isn't just a straight port. This is a better option than paying full price again.

Same with Death Stranding. You could get the PS5 director's cut version for a small fee if you already owned the original.

I find it dumb but it also doesn't make much difference to me, we could have just got nothing. Which is what I'll get for any paid upgrades that don't offer any substantial content. (although from the sounds of it some of these are accessible if you pay for online, which I do....still not sure I have the desire to play BotW again, or TotK ever though)

I'll never pay for a game upgrade. However, it's only a scam if you fork over the money.
I think of it like the lottery in a way.
Lots of fools pay money into the lottery and the funds go to fund things like schools.
While I'll rarely or never play the lottery, I'm glad a lot of people do.
The upgrade fees may fund development of games I'll love in the future.

The fun part is that no-one is going to buy 3rd party on the Switch 2 with these tactics. Nintendo is pushing the Switch 2 to be the Wii U Boo-Hoo Two, where people buy for 1st & 2nd party exclusives (if they don't emulate) and go to Steam for literally everything else.

I would not call it a scam but a business tactics that work. I honestly think people need to stop and think for a while on why companies do all these kinds of things. They do it for profit marging and they keep doing becuse it works.

Every one is upset about Gacha games, Loot boxes, paid upgrades, overly expensive remasters and pay to skip mmo games. Well the reason they still around is becuse it works they keep making money on.

Im not saying I like it but I understand it they are a companu their goal is profit and they try things and if the thing makes them money they keep doing it. Hence why we saw eevery one and their mother doing battle royal games or moba games becuse other companies saw profit in it.

So I would say the people to blame is the people that keep spending money on it. I mean if you as a company lost money on something you would not keep doing it or you end up bankrupt.

So I hate to say this but the blame is mostly on the gamers. The saying vote with your wallet is true in every sense of the word. If they don´t make money they won´t keep doing it.

I understand one is sick and tired of it but being angry or upset about it just waste of engery and won´t change a thing sadly. In this day Money is more important than human life.

Yeah, it's definitely a scam. You're already going to pay a huge amount for the console and the new games, and you also have to pay for the ones you already have? As Dante once said:

Also daily reminder that when you pay for a game you only have the license to use it on said hardware. Being able to have the game again on the other requires another in the same way you'll need a separate license for a new game.

It's like if you buy a bottle of Coke you cannot ask to get a Diet Coke one freely from your vendor.

Allowing to own the upgraded version of the same game when you buy it once is a blessing if the editor allows you. Toby Fox decided that if you owned the PS4 or Switch version of Deltarune you'll de facto own the PS5 or Switch 2 version respectively.

I can understand and agree for backwards compatibility with Switch1 games that run much smoother than on original consoles but the upgrade-thing is just a greedy move from Nintendo.

Your upgrade is also essentially a rental. You will not be able to download that content once the servers inevitable go down. This is why I hate console DLC. At least with PC you can always find stuff floating around somewhere.

Not only that , but its really hard to even find a console which had the DLC while even paying an ungodly sum of money because it has the DLC that isnt possible to get anymore .

Classic Xbox games had alot of DLCs ( and all were free too ) you cant get ever again like some missions , characters , maps and skins which is a huge shame . Atleast some tools and programs to create own DLCs for those games would be awesome .
