The file size is due to the music files on mp3. The actual game is 8MB. To play this on retroarch you have to use the core included, a modified genesis plus core, else the game will play a fake low res "mockup". So go to your retroarch cores folder, backup and delete your genesis_plus_gx_libretro.dll and replace it with the one included with the game. After that just load content and find the game .bin.

Anyone know if this works on Mega Drive core on Mister?
No for ED Core, it needs an FPGA and ED Pro, and secondly for the Mega SD I doubt we will ever see it, the guys are too lazy since the last update was 4 years ago!

Yeah but the quality of the game isn't the point here. If that was the case, there are plenty of better beat n' ups out there.

The thing is that it is a new game for the Mega Drive and they are locking it behind a paywall that isn't worth anymore, since the people who would spend money on it already have done that.

If only they were making another big batch of cartridges, or releasing it through -- god forbid -- Limited Run Games -- it would be a different thing but no; they are just sitting on the game for years.

Even the guys behind Pier Solar already gave up on the rom. They should follow their steps and focus on digital releases and leave the Mega Drive version as a bonus for those who want to know the game.

People won't stop buying it on steam just because there's a rom on the internet, and there are plenty of retro releases that proves exactly that.
True, I agree.

Heh, I dunno, after playing it, while a decent game it's certainly not worth the hassle to get it running, I much rather a Rom hack of SoR2 that turns it into Paprium if possible, SoR2 just feels better to control imo (I wish you could run though) and we also have a very decent homebrew port of Final Fight so honestly Paprium is just not worth the hassle imo.

I think Paprium has reached a plateau that it won't sell more units, so at this rate they should just release the rom to gather awareness to their next product.

There are two modified roms on internet where all options are unlocked without requirements of having save states:
in the first one:
- arcade mode - all paths, paprium difficulty, 4 extra characters available from start,
- original mode - no changes,
- arena mode unlocked with all extra characters,
- boom box unlocked in options.
in the second one:
- arcade mode - all paths, paprium difficulty, 4 extra characters available from start,
- original mode - only 4 extra characters available from start; 3 original ones are not available,
- arena mode unlocked with all extra characters,
- boom box unlocked in options.
@molasar would you be able to post a link to these two modified versions of the rom. I can't seem to find them.

Also, doesn't this github have the most recent windows core needed to play Paprium. Unless I'm mistaken, it looks more up to date than the one in the download link here.

hmm I tried this and I am always getting rom is unknown error
The only time I got this error was when I didn't put the zip in a folder named "genesis". That's important.
Other than that, I don't know what's causing it.

When you do get it running it takes maybe 20 seconds to start because it has to load all those audio files.

You can also use the standard FBNeo core to play it.

You have to put paprium.bin in a zip named paprium.zip and put it in a folder named "genesis".
This folder goes wherever you place your other roms for fbneo.

Convert all the mp3 files to wav and put them in a zip named paprium.zip.
Put the zip in a folder named "samples" and then put that folder in another folder called "fbneo".
The "fbneo" folder goes in the retroarch system folder. The one where you place the bios files.

Launch the game and you'll get the fake game. Restart the game and then you'll get the real one.

Tested this myself and it's working on linux. Shouldn't be any different on Mac.

Yeah... just tried that core and got a "failed to open libretro core" error. Considering it only works with the Wide core, and the core you linked was the basic GPGX core, I may need to just wait for someone to make a build of the newer wide core for Mac... if someone ever does such a thing. I'm certainly not proficient enough to figure that kind of stuff out myself. :(

All I've got access to is a PS Vita and a Mac. The PS Vita core is giving me scratchy audio and no music. Will there ever be a Mac compatible Paprium/GenPlusGX core for RetroArch? (Performance on VITA is also below par.)

I've waited so long to properly experience this game.
More cores are available on the github page.
The Mac cores have a "TEST" label so there may be issues.

If anyone is interested I compiled a custom version of Paprium (Mega Drive) only 50mb in size, all characters unlocked, PC/Linux/Android/cores included as well, core renamed to GX Wide version instead of regular GX core because most people don't want replace regular core
Hey thanks for this.

I got into a dispute on this thread with someone who said the sound was fine. Well I've tried on several Android devices and the sound is far from fine. In fact I've seen YouTube videos of it where the sound isn't fine. There is distortion or white noise in the background and the music is muffled.

It's the same here with this version. Maybe it works properly on windows? But how to get sound working properly on Android?

Cheers

Can someone give an instruction on what to do with all these files? I know how to use regular genesis roms or pretty much everything on this site (using retroarch and other apps), but how to make this game work exactly on windows?

found the solution

<<To play this on Retroarch you have to use the modified genesis plus core, or the game will play a fake low res "mockup". To get past the mockup, the very first time you play, you need to let the enemy players beat you beat you in that part, so your character properly dies. If you restart after that, you should be good and the full game should load.>>

As usual, this place is way behind on things.
The upload in the main post is several versions behind.

Here's the latest core https://github.com/RapidEdwin08/Genesis-Plus-GX-Expanded-Rom-Size
You'll have to manually set up msys2 for Windows to get your 64bit .dll core file, or compile on another platform of your choosing (Linux PC, Linux Pi4-5, Android), no precompiled version is available on the github.

I attached the 07-07 build here, including an info file (unique core name, no need to rename anything, works alongside normal genplusgx:

What's the point of this in paprium.h GPGX source from RapidEdwin08:
C:
if( voice->size == 0 ) {
}

It does literally nothing, and it's the only difference in relation to the original source distributed. There are a lot more files, but it seems to be related with ease of compilation than anything else. Can someone explain what this source improves that wasn't in, let's say, here: https://github.com/MAVProxyUser/Genesis-Plus-GX/tree/LittleManProject

EDIT: I can see that the build also raises the MAX_ROM_SIZE from 10485760 (10MB) to 93554432 (90MB). I can't say for sure that this is moronic since theoretically you can raise it to whatever you want as long as you create a proper bank-switching for it, but for sure that it doesn't improve anything regarding Paprium emulation.

With as much fraud that swirled around this game, and if it is true the theft that occured to their customers I will pass. It ain't even worth this pirates time, much like these stores that try to pass off it off as, "oh that price doesn't go into affect tomorrow, according to the extremely fine print.", and the other customers who buy so much that the originally msrp price goes unnoticed in a sea of other purchases. If we steal, we go to jail, shouldn't be any different here. It is fraud, plain and simple.

Everdrive Pro is required as it has FPGA with core which handles external music files and large roms.

Has anyone manged to get this working on a Mega SG without using an everdrive. Was hoping to just chuck it on an sd car and plug it into the console.
