Also known as Tetris Attack (which has nothing to do with Tetris aside from brand recognition) with Yoshi's Island characters (not the first time they took a Nintendo IP for a puzzle game like with Kirby's Avalanche)

The series focus on fairies doing battles (because of one big bad brainwashing them) and Lip has to help them coming back to their senses.

A N64 sequel with the descendants (Furil being Lip's) is sadly canned (a rom was found but never uploaded online). However it still exists through Pokémon Puzzle League on the N64 (featuring FMVs taken from the anime) and the Japan-exclusive Nintendo Puzzle Collection (featuring Dr. Mario 64 and Yoshi's Cookie).

We also got a Gameboy port of Tetris Attack, a GB Color port of the Pokémon game (which has a romhack that restores the Panel de Pon content within the rom), a DS game called Planet Puzzle League which has no reskin, only a "cyber digital" theme like many games of the 00's (although the Japanese version has access to a Lip themed stage which is only available through cheating in the western release) and finally a mini-game in Animal Crossing New Leaf if you have the in-game 3DS but sadly only features challenge levels.

This franchise is living in the shadow of many others and couldn't properly bloom in the west because of the way it got almost always reskined as they deemed that Lip and fairies couldn't sell as well (despite that Puyo Puyo was also a cutesy puzzle game).

With the NSO release of the game we could only hope to see a new game coming without any reskin...

I had Tetris ATtack when I was in high school in the 90s. When I eventually started getting into Super Famicom games, Panel De Pon was one of the first games I purchased. I like the cutesy aesthetic, and obviously it plays the exact same.

Easily one of the best puzzle games on the Super Nintendo. Soundtrack is equally amazing (especially Elias' theme).

I wish there was some crossover just to see how they would interact with each others

Compared to other competitive puzzle games, this series was more fun & interesting. Instead of stacking, things just grow & mixing columns to three or more while you get other lines to interact the same way is pretty satisfying. Plus the fairy designs & music are goddamn appealing.

On a side note: Puyo Puyo was reskinned when it was brought over to the west as well.

I learned about this whole thing because of OP's post on my own thread.

It's definitely interesting and something I'm glad I know about, but not sure it's something I'd play.

And yours inspired me to make this one.

Hope it's not too redundant for people here.
