OG Silent Hill 2. It's not a bad game, but it gets way over praised to the detriment of other great entries, or other psychological horror games in general. Not helping matters are people like Yahtzee, and his echo chamber fan base (who got really 'brave' all of sudden when kept doing this), feel the need to put down/insult the other games in the trilogy and sometimes the other fans to lesser extent. All because Silent Hill 1 is just "some guy" and Silent Hill 3 is about a "dumb cult". Their reasons boil down to not being Silent Hill 2.
Castlevania SOTN and Rondo of Blood. The former drags on for way too long, and many other better metroidvanias have come out not long after it. Rondo is just an okay Castlevania game with an awesome soundtrack and presentation. It doesn't control better than Bloodlines nor IV, and lacks the level variety/creativity of neither games too.
Modern Warfare 2 (2009) has great level variety, but the plot is way less grounded and went into full on Micheal Bay silliness of the worst kind. The story is just a worse version of Red Dawn combined with 24.
Resident Evil 4 (2005). Yes it started a new genre of 3rd person shooters that became the standard within the next generation. Yes, it revitalized the franchise. Yes, it changed Leon "for the better". Too bad the story I don't find that entertaining, nor is it was witty and intentional people like to think/pretend it is. Seriously, Shinji Mikami has admitted multiple times he hates the story, and I don't blame him for it. Ashley I can't stand in this game, and the gameplay doesn't do it for me, because Leon can't move and shoot at the same time. I hate the QTEs. Also, this game made stop caring about Ada in the original continuity.
I do like RE5 more. Before any of you start, yes has similar issues as 4 with the shooting and lack of doing both at the same time, yet 5 at least gives you more melee options and even tag team moves that do double the damage. RE5 I find much better paced. OG RE4 is paced badly, and I've only done the 1 playthrough. Any other time I get bored and do something else. RE5 I've done at least 5 playthroughs. RE4R is a much better game, a good story, better controls and shooting, a better and more interesting Ashley that is actually character, and a much more consistent and developed Leon.
Gears of War in general, and many cover shooters that copied it and failed. Vanquish trumps all of them. Nothing futher.
