Agree on Charlize
OK, I don't know if "overhated" is the right word for this movie, because it really does suck, but I happen to like the 2003 Aeon Flux movie a lot. It is absolutely nothing like the show (my fave TV show ever <3), and a lot of the stuff in it is truly, unbelievably moronic, but I also think there's some good in here, too. The visuals are just gorgeous, with some really cool illustrations of certain concepts that the original show didn't have, and the actual environment that the movie is set in is utterly gorgeous. (I love the way movies from this early-2000s era look.)
The storyline is inane and the characters are all flat as pancakes (to say nothing of how different they are from the source material), but there's a lot of neat sci-fi stuff in here that I don't think we'll ever see again. This "girl in the future" genre always gets me, so I'm totally biased. Also, Charlize is HOOOTTTTTT
I also kinda like Rocky V. Again, I think its reputation as a bad sequel is fair, and it doesn't hold a candle to any of the other Rocky movies (though I dislike 6 more), but I like a few of the themes and there are some interesting moments. It actually works really well as a... a... *gulp*... *heave*... post-modern deconstruction () of a typical Rocky movie, and I think what it has to say about the downsides of "going the distance" are sorta neat.
It's, like, the counterargument to the original Rocky film, and makes an interesting balance towards the end of the series. I also think Union Cane and Duke King, two of the antagonists, are fucking hilarious. THAT SAID, the plot is again horribly stupid, none of the characters act like they should, the main antagonist is snore city, and there isn't even any good music. This critic gives Rocky V 2/5 stars, I'm afraid.

The Mario movie is hilarious!I don't have any specific example right now, but I never understood adults hating on children's movies. They are supposed to appeal to their target audience, who cares if they aren't redefining cinema? I enjoyed the Super Mario Bros Movie as a kid. I loved Disney's Atlantis. The Rescuers: Down Under? Still a gem in my book.
I actually know why this is! Prior to about 1997 or so, the prevailing idea in children's entertainment was that it needed to be "whimsical" to stoke imagination and curiosity. This is why a lot of children's movies and TV shows from the late 20th century put tons of effort into writing and animation (some more than others, of course), because the people making them assumed that was what children were interested in. This is why a lot of those shows, books, and movies are still remembered fondly and enjoyed by full-grown adults today.I never understood adults hating on children's movies.
I think adults born in those years, at least ones that are still vocal about this have probably latched onto my little pony for striking a balance between the two narratives you’ve proposed. Really interesting read though.I actually know why this is! In the late '90s, though, what was actually discovered in the field of child psychology is that kids prefer media that's scientifically developed and adjusted to their immediate wants – i.e. lots of colours, context-free noise, and repetition. This is a hypothesis that was tested several times through shows like the Teletubbies, Barney, and the modern incarnation of Sesame Street, which have teams of researchers behind both the development of the shows and the writing of every episode.
It's been academically proven that this new kind of media is better for helping kids develop motor skills and capacitive memory, so, objectively speaking, it's "healthier" for them than something like The Secret of NIMH. Of course, the downside is that they have precisely zero appeal for adults, but there's so much money in kids that it doesn't matter, and, well... here we are. People who were born in the 80s and the first half of the 90s grew up with very, very different children's media than what exists today, and their expectations are wildly-different from reality.
As a counterpoint to this, I was watching for the first time in my life classic disney movies like the original dumbo just a few years ago and I still loved then, while most modern children movies I find extremely annoying nowadays and honestly brain rotting instead of educative. It's similar to games, plenty of old nintendo games were obviously aimed at children, but adults can still enjoy then because there's an actual effort into making a good product.I don't have any specific example right now, but I never understood adults hating on children's movies. Never seen anyone call that movie bad, just not memorable. The 2004 adaptation of "The Punisher"
it has all the high octane action that you would expect from a high budget movie without getting PG-13, it was criticized because "it was too grim", even when the movie itself had moments of levity like the fight against The Russian, i think it just came during a bad time when most people wanted more witty writing by Joss Whedon back then, Thomas Jane was also perfectly cast and it spawn the fantastic PS2 game made by Volition
the movie is a blessing, it never got its proper duesView attachment 3081
Didn’t see any hate but if people do hate it then it’s undeserved imoI heard a lot of people talk crap about Mutant Mayhem, but I don't know if it's actually hated ?
I loved this movie, and I'm born in the early 80'.
If this is the one where april has been completely redesigned and the turtles personalities changed, that's why, the director if i remember right made some snide comments and insults that made people who felt they were "blackwashing" april (the term blackwashing is a term used in opposite to "whitewashing" a term used for when a black character was made white for political reasons), april o'niell was a tall, white woman of irish decent hence the red hair, who they completely redesigned as a black, short, stocky average attractiveness nerdy character, which setoff a firestorm in the culture war going on in the west.I heard a lot of people talk crap about Mutant Mayhem, but I don't know if it's actually hated ?

Every decade, the TMNT franchise gets rebooted into something that kids love and longtime fans hate. I grew up on the edgy 2003 series and adored it, but I remember older people thinking that was terrible at the time, too.Mutant Mayhem, but I don't know if it's actually hated ?
April is one of those characters who gets drastically redesigned whenever they make a new incarnation of the series — she’s been officially black since the 2018 TV show. I’m personally more offended by the fact that she’s gotten progressively younger in every successive reboot — soon, she’ll be younger than the turtles themselves!april o'niell was a tall, white woman of irish decent hence the red hair,
The next turtle movie is gonna look really weird…Every decade, the TMNT franchise gets rebooted into something that kids love and longtime fans hate. I grew up on the edgy 2003 series and adored it, but I remember older people thinking that was terrible at the time, too.
I haven’t seen Mutant Mayhem — I’m not crazy about the art style, and I don’t really like how all the new shows look, either — but it certainly seems like a cute kids’ film.

it was mostly snob critics (and a certain youtuber) who were openly vocal about their dislike of it, but i should also have included Warzone too, since that doesn't even get a proper look despite the effort was put into it.Never seen anyone call that movie bad, just not memorable.
Punisher Warzone get's it worse, i personally think punisher warzone is the best punisher movie.
I mostly heard the complains about the turtles acting like 12 years old.If this is the one where april has been completely redesigned and the turtles personalities changed, that's why, the director if i remember right made some snide comments and insults that made people who felt they were "blackwashing" april (the term blackwashing is a term used in opposite to "whitewashing" a term used for when a black character was made white for political reasons), april o'niell was a tall, white woman of irish decent hence the red hair, who they completely redesigned as a black, short, stocky average attractiveness nerdy character, which setoff a firestorm in the culture war going on in the west.
As for the turtles, i can't remember exactly what caused the problem there, but i think one of the turtles was made gay and all of the "edge" was removed from the others i think?
Like i said, not sure (didn't keep up with the contraversy), but as in general it's VERY unpopular for any side to bring sexuality into things made for children, gay or not, if one of them was openly gay it probably caused a parental disdain as well.
I’d love a new crossover that incorporates all turtles. A bit ambitious but would be fun.I mostly heard the complains about the turtles acting like 12 years old.
Personaly one of the things I love about the turtles is that each version is different. Even if Mutant Mayhem isn't my favorite version, the movie was really intertaining and there were a lot of good stuff in it.
I didn't like April in that movie though, and Leo's crush on her was pretty pointless.
It's such a bold premise, "National hero Rocky is in fact, totally a mortal man, permanently damaged from his strategy of being punched in the face till the other guy gets tired, and maybe doesn't understand his son." It's still a little on the boring side, but it really isn't much worse than say, Rocky II.I also kinda like Rocky V.
Bob Hoskins was the best, just the best.I enjoyed the Super Mario Bros Movie as a kid.
I think the biggest problem was a dour revenge tale mixed with wacky, PG-13 approved antics. They hoped for broad appeal with a script that called for downright nasty...like Punisher: Warzone! The 2004 adaptation of "The Punisher"
95/90 Critic/Audience on Rotten Tomatoes, only people I've heard who didn't like it never watched it. My favorite Turtles movie since the original, easily.I heard a lot of people talk crap about Mutant Mayhem, but I don't know if it's actually hated ?
I don't really think of Road House as being very country (Smokey and the Bandit, now that's the ticket), our main character Dalton is so worldly that he really challenges everyone around him, he isn't a city slicker who assimilates, he shapes the world where he goes. I mean, you could say the villain is a rich man who brings modernity to the town and extorts them every step of the way, and it takes a righteous educated city boy to save the day. My favorite bit being the old rancher who puts him up, the scene where he watches Swayze go through his morning routine shirtless? I think the script wanted him to convey "mystified", but that man is clearly having a late in life sexual awakening.Road House (1989). 80s action flick with a distinct "country" flavor, nothing quite like it out there. Particularly funny as the usual suspects can't bring themselves to hate it entirely, but they'll still try to pass it off as a "guilty pleasure" to be enjoyed "ironically"... What a bunch of hog wash.
This is what (and I understand how pathetic this makes me sound as a grown man complaining about children's cartoons on the internet) really gave me pause about the new movie. In the original TMNT show (and the 2003 series to an extent), the turtles were barely teenagers at all – they drove cars, got jobs, unassumingly impersonated adult detectives, etc. Since the 2013 series, though, they've been aged down pretty significantly, and I think whether or not you like that is going to heavily influence your thoughts going into Mutant Mayhem.I mostly heard the complains about the turtles acting like 12 years old.
I – and I mean this completely sincerely – cannot tell who you're talking about with this comment. It could go either way.the usual suspects
Oh, you are SO on the list. It's still a little on the boring side, but it really isn't much worse than say, Rocky II.
What a pleasant hill, I could die here.Oh, you are SO on the list.
