Optimistic or Pessimistic about the Future of the World?

Im usually an angry old man about everything these days, but if you go back even 100 years ago things were way worse for the normal person. Don't believe me? Just play Oregon Trail.

I'm realistic. Basically most of Earth's resources will be in severe significant depletion point around 2030s due to population keeps increasing so high so can't produce drugs, hardly can produce vegetables, naturally prices of everything will be raised and some stuff won't be sold anymore due to lack of resources to produce them. Then resource wars and shit, only the top 1% will have what is left and enjoy your Fallout life if you are in the 99% lol.
Population is decreasing faster than ever, it seems. Fertility rates in the west are plummetting, at least in the indiginous populations. The middle east has had so many wars over the last decades that population must have decreased somewhat. Maybe the other regions are making up the difference. If I had to put money on it, I'd say worldwide population decrease is the norm recently, in my opinion, generally, not politically ( I don't have numbers).

Pessimistic. Supremely. At least, when it comes to humanity and our continued existence.

Then again, I studied Environmental Science in school, with a focus on Sustainability and Sustainable Ecosystems. Know the Gorillaz album Plastic Beach? I've seen virtually the same damn thing in real life. On multiple continents, in countries both industrialized and not.

We have such a beautiful planet, but all we want to do is trash it. That shouldn't be too much of a surprise, because we love to trash ourselves, too! Smoking. Drinking. Junk food. Sodas. And, of course, prescription and recreational drugs. How can we honestly expect people to take care of the planet when so many of us can't even take care of ourselves?

In saying all that, provided there's no asteroid or other cosmic cataclysm, I actually feel pretty good about the overall future of the world... just after a few million years, when humanity has wiped itself out completely 😇

Sure do! Just have to look in the mirror 😉
If it was decided by big corporations to remove plastics because of their environmental impact, the masses would be glad if there was a replacement. The system unfortunately went down many negative routes in production. I think the general mass of people were just too weary with all the work hours to survive. The power to change environmental things was in the corporations hands, mostly. They created the plastics and mass produced them. Humanity should probably have stuck to the old ways of farming, growing & hunting but we are where we are, and over the generations, I think many allowances were allowed that shouldn't have been, so responsibility is on all of us really.

In reality population is not decreasing, its increasing rate gets lower. So it's still increasing but the decrease is not in a significant way. Perhaps there will be like few years longer difference for the population to reach to another 1 billion compared to the previous one.

Some countries getting "more old people population compared to young people ratio" which around talked as if it's doom senario, but in reality it's natural cause for making women's daily life go beyond of being a house wife in general aspect of the world and how modern understanding of how life is and changed in life conditions. That's why when people prefered to make around 6 kids now they prefer around 3 kids. Still when old people died this BS misunderstanding of "doom" senario will be shifted for "too much young population compared to old people" which benefits governments and thus citizens for the shift in retirement money can be spend for increase in payments. In reality this "old to young people ratio" is a cycle that happens in like every century, what changed is social changes that people don't produce like rabbits which is an okay thing.

Thus world population won't decrease, its rate of increase will get slower and slower and find its stability point. Is it alarming? What's alarming is world population is too much so the way things are actually a positive change lol.

Small plastic bottles is something that grew in popularity over the last 20 years. In the NES days I remember it was more normal to have a gallon plastic bottle and a cup. If you had a small water bottle back then you were either at a concert or disney world. But now the small bottles are normal. More plastic waste and more microplastics in our diet. Going back to gallon bottles being the normal would be a good first step
