Older tech = more immersion?

There were quite many immersive games in the CD-Rom dos era.
1994-1998 is considered the golden age of pc gaming
Indeed.

A hell of a lot of titles were being shipped on massive CD-Rom packages just to give you either better graphics or more content. Sometimes all you needed was good acting over a green screen background to be sold.
 
Really hard to say what caused the creative and quality nose dive in recent years. Too many factors to consider. Publisher meddling, burden of making money for investors, and strange cost cutting choices like shutting down studios that actually made money. Looking at the big picture I still just don't get it. That internet conspiracy theory about the top 1% being so rich that they're all just playing a big game to see who can burn the most money sounds pretty rational right now.
