Is it just me or where Old Anime just Better in terms of Story Telling and quality or is it just Nostalgia Talking here, and don't get me wrong there are still some banger Anime coming out Like Frieren and Helck, but overall on most Modern Anime feel a bit Generic and Soulless but maybe its just me.So what is your Opinion on that. And what is the Exact time you begin to say that its a Modern and this is a Old Anime, for me it would be probably be around the early 2000s and Before so Probably 2010 at Max.

I generally agree with this. I personally prefer the look of hand drawn anime from the '80s, '90s and 2000s even if the writing and production doesn't always hold up. Looks especially good on a CRT TV, the colors and animation really pop. That said, you can find a high quality series from just about any period of time—that's what is so great about the medium.

Its nostalgia talking, they still crank out good anime here and there.
Yeah here and there are still good Anime coming out, but I mean on a large scale most is Generic Isekai Anime,or another OP Lonely Edgelord Hero. And I do dislike the Modern Art Style I prefer Hand Drawn it feels more cozy and I feels like its done with Soul, but this is just my personal taste.

Urikupen Kyujotai was the work that introduced me to both anime and animation in general.

Digimon Tamers showed me just how good and engaging a storyline could be even if built upon a foundation that was meant to be dismissed because of its childish themes, but it still pleases my adult self immensely.

And Slam Dunk remains the best animated work I have ever seen due to its passionate execution, untamed creativity and the masterful techniques used to tell its tale.

I can't think of any modern work that can even approach those feelings, despite me loving plenty of them.

You say this but back then in the 90s we had huge waves of garbage too, same with the 00s and 10s. Its just a followed trend. I remember we had a wave of Mecha anime, Harem anime, Lol so random anime, Madoka Magika rip-offs and Survival games back-to-back in the last decade or 2. Its just moving trends. They still do hand-drawn art style, go watch Shirobako. Since they explore more of the anime industry. Anime still has "Soul" idk what that incline.

For me it is Spirited Away or Princess Mononoke that will always be a treasure for me.Or das Schloss im Himmel (The Castle in the Sky) I don't know the English Title of that Anime.I really love the Ghibli Art style as it always feels cozy to get back to.

Ooooh! I love Ghibli! Specially Spirited Away and Kiki's Delivery Service.

That said... Grave Of The Fireflies is a war crime, and a very ironic one at that.

I did not know that Anime (Grave of the Fireflies),but i really like Kiki's Delivery Service to,and I know its set in a Fictional world but I always felt like it was taking Place in Germany especially with the Old European Architecture and I loved it. And I do find this Song also quite suiting for it.

Animes of the 80s and 90s had a better quality/quantity ratio , there were many daring, original and striking works and fewer productions overall. Today, we're witnessing a fast-food trend, with a huge offer, more resources and more commercial formulas.

Bad and good anime have existed at all times, it's just that today it's overloaded with slop and you have to dig for gems

In the End its a Matter of personal preference, but many Old Anime just felt like the had more Soul put into them, and sure bad Anime came out back then to nobody is going to deny that, but the overall Quality of the Anime was better in my Opinion. And some Modern Anime are still good I have just the feeling since Anime came into the Mainstream that its overproduced with Generic and Soulless Slop.

I prefer the traditional cel-animation of anime before the 2000s, it just looks so much better!
Yes, it's very hard and tiring work for the animators, but the great effort eventually reflects in the quality of the end product.

I'm having hard time watching modern anime that uses digital animation mainly because of this. Looks too glossy, artificial and bland color palette wise.

I personally went with nostalgia talking. Everything pre-2000s & everything post-2000s has a pretty clear 50/50 ratio of both treasures & garbage. While the overall soul of 90s anime may be higher, they also had their fair share of generic ones, & some pretty garbage ones too.
Honestly early digital animation has a vibe to it. There's an equally amount of soulful 2000s anime. I'd also argue that comedy anime also peaked post-2000s!
We'd also be denying directors like Masaaki Yuasa & others who started directing around that time.

I would say nostalgia is doing the heavy lifting but I think what you're pointing out is the more variety inworld building, stories, a more planned episode count to map out storylines, and less saturation of tropes and storylines that have been overused and made on mass to as catch nets to hook that heavy fist over dollar otaku fanbase that was built over the decades. Back then studios would experiment with series of their own or even take a chance on moderate popular hits in manga but now they're got scripts from light novel fanboys over better anime around 20 years old now so they're been chasing them as they're the most vocal and first audience for feedback not us outside their shores.

There's also the bad in some of the old anime mainly shonen that suffered from filler episodes and whole arcs all the way to the 2010s where they decided they could take breaks for the manga to give them more content to transcript to animation. There's also more dubious handling of various topics that require nuance which let's be honest effect every medium with time. There's hit and miss voice acting as this was still the infancy of the art and not everyone had the talent and the script translations also suffered from less stellar understanding of the language and language puns that were dropped or poorly done. Some tropes survive today but others also aged poorly or just are hard to get into.

But do I think older anime is better? Well I think older anime might with in terms of shlock volume than we have now with modern studios production lines but that's also because older anime isn't as well preserved as many are probably still lost or never saw much in terms of dubbing or VHS so old anime shlock is harder to find to judge it as just as bad or worse.

Nostalgia tbh. We always gloss over the really shitty stuff from back then but as a result, people hyper analyze the bad anime from now and suddenly it’s the norm to them. For every Rent a Girlfriend, there’s a Kaguya-Sama. For every Magical Girl Site, there’s yet another PreCure. For every 7 Deadly Frames, there’s Chainsaw Man. And so on. Really the only genre that is widely agreed upon to be kinda consistently shit is probably isekai due to the overuse of tropes and most MCs just being the exact same. The moment you make the isekai equivalent of Neon Genesis Evangelion, even that would change real quick.

An unspoken rule of anime is that if no one at all has or will ever talk about it, there is a 98% chance that the anime kinda sucks

Honestly, the anime eras of the '60s, '70s, '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s and '20s have their advantages and disadvantages but the ones before were more creative and with fascinating stories but now they are doing what they can (not all current anime are bad) but they have better animation than the ones before, yes.

I don't think anime themselves got better or worse but the production quality went really downhill as anime became more global.

Back in the day Japan had a lot of money to spare to fund productions but now they mostly adhere to the "pump as many anime as possible to see what sticks" kinda of mentality.

Every year we got more anime each season just to be consumed and then discarded afterwards so production tend to be rushed of sucks the life of the staff.

I mainly watch anime from the 80s to the early 2000s since they were the majority of the shows that got me into anime but there are still good productions nowadays.

Rayearth?
I was thinking of Inuyasha, Fushigi Yugi, Escaflowne, The Twelve Kingdoms oh but the best reverse was I swear this guy who gets isekaied and ends up getting a husband after a duel and they adopt a daughter.

I wouldn't say better as a lot of older anime tended to be higher quality in terms of storytelling and willing to experiment more with different ideas, such as the many mecha anime there are from the cel period (e.g. Zambot 3 focusing on a more realistic setting for a super robot anime with consequences from the fights, Dunbine being the OG isekai that played with the idea of biomechanical mechas in a medieval world alongside stopping a corrupt ruler, and Macross being a mix of idols and mecha that involves the idol part as a major role in the story with the main conflict). Not to deny there aren't any stinkers cause they do exist during that period but it was really a period of just going with original series that do different takes on genres or the adaptations for a series either loosely or accurately to the source.

With new anime though it's just that they produce a lot of anime these days and they focus on more quantity over quality than anything, a ton of anime but you would have to look deeper into the anime to find the good stuff. Even if I'm more of a old anime enjoyer, I have seen some good anime from this period and some that have really surprised me so I find both old and new to be good in different ways. I personally don't believe that either are better but it comes back to taste at the end of the day. The amount of Isekais out there is crazy these days though lol.

Yes and no. Honestly it´s the same with old games.
There are plenty of great old games but = as plenty of shitty old games Imean shit do I need to name LJN ?
Same with anime there are allot of good old anime but allot of old trash anime.
There are allot of good new games and bad. There is allot of good new anime and bad ones.

The biggest different between good old anime and good new anime is the art. Back in the day allot of anime´s where hand drawn while modern anime is all computer drawn. Old anime has more charm and feeling in the art style. While modern anime can make for a good story.

Saying there is no good modern anime or games is kind of delusional.
