I finally downloaded "Off the Grid" from Steam on my PC. I’ve been seeing those commercials since the launch, and the cyberpunk aesthetic really hits a sweet spot for me, but... some things are better left to the imagination just like when I was a teenager flipping through Brazilian gaming magazines, imagining what it would be like to own this game or that one...
Off-grid doesn't connect with what would truly make me return to a game like this: people, a community. I barely found any matches. And that made me think about how games like this, released in another era, would have a different appeal.
I played and met so many people in Destiny that maybe I got spoiled thinking of games like this as also being about "comfort." The kind of game that, even without hard dedication, you can still enjoy.
With so many successful companies ending up laying off their teams—and leaving a bitter taste in one's mouth regarding this "physical-media-free" future for games. I find myself wondering what will actually make me sit down and play: will it be the games rooted in my nostalgia, the ones I revisit regardless of the entry number (yes, give me a new Mortal Kombat ) or games that compel me to immerse myself in their worlds? Will I have the stamina and the money to dive into something like, Marathon ?
I don't want to sound negative... the game is interesting, but in my opinion, it urgently deserved a single-player campaign.
