Obscure being something that is totally random, but in this case still rather charming. I'll go first, at the moment I'm playing the original Animal Crossing population growing, and I love the self references especially when it comes to snooping around in a villagers cabinets. It really gives off the notion that they were having fun when making the game.

What are some of your favorites?

Sound Test. I like it when osts have official names. They started giving official names to Kirby music as well finally. No more Icy Area or Frosty Area or Volcano Area. Exotic Pyramid was surprisingly on point though for some reason

- Older games had a separate section for mini-games.
- You could find hidden characters that could be unlocked through either entering a code, achieving a difficult task or ending the game in a specific manner.
- PS1/PS2 and O.G Xbox had a specific small image or pic that was according to the games, example a Go-Kart for Crash Bandicoot: Nitro-fueled.
- Difficulty mattered for example Halo.
- Difficulty pages had a specific way of making the character feel like they will be in a world of hurt if they chose the more difficult version of the game.

Cheat Codes and Unlockables. Bonuses unlocked by having a save file from a prior game in the same series. Unique pause screens. The demos shown when you idle on the start menu.Little details like when you enter a house of establishment in RGG Isshin you take off you footwear. Or how in some games you change console time to certain days or holiday, there's a certain bonus or the environment matches it. There's probly more I forgot.

Random TCGs in my games like Triple Triad in Final Fantasy VIII. I never knew how addicting it was until I tried going for a low level playthrough by turning every enemy into a card. I got into some really heated battles trying not to lose my precious GF cards.

Saves flies that also act as progress checkers, like whole in The World Ends With You, as you 100% the game, more characters will appear on your save file's save screen thingy.

I miss how PS2 games had custom Icons for save files on the memory card. I love the games that put extra animations on the save file if you're about to transfer it or delete it.

I love gallery screens, I love watching conceptual art, scrapped features, beta tests footage and even pics of the devs
I don't know why but makes me feel closer to the game

Inventory screens that are part of the game world are cool as hell. Like the R.I.G. holograms from Dead Space, or your laid out backpack from The Forest.
I hate that the only game that uses the “look down on your belt” inventory from the 2008 Alone in the Dark game is the 2008 Alone in the Dark game.

The only good thing about Alone in the Dark '08.

Getting to shove party members/npcs out of the way. And when the game devs are very thoughtful, you'll have little things happen like the npc might comment or wiggle a bit while you shove them only for a little " :( " thought bubble to appear if you succeed. In animal crossing, it might even be the straw that broke the camels back for that villagers day.

Alternate costumes for characters are always a classic. Also, whenever changing your armor also changes your appearance it's a bonus for me. Xenoblade 1 did it pretty well in that respect

Pause screen music of a bygone era!

When the loading icon has a little dude or la creatura running in place. Also when loading screens have concept art or unique renders of the area you're currently in.
