Nu metal thread

Normally, I prefer nu-metal only when I'm in a shitty mood. Good thing I've been in a shitty mood for a day or two now. This shit became much, much more relatable as a traumatized adult than it ever was as a brooding teenager.

Here's my theme song for all the brainwashing, lovebombing and other bullshit false friends gave me over the past fucking decade.

Here's how I've been feeling for a week or two, burned out of damn near everything right now.

This one's just a bop.

I'm down for some nu-metal from time to time, sometimes you just have to Break Stuff you know?

Not sure if Finger Eleven counts as nu-metal, they were decently hard at one point.

numetal was cool i like anything thats a lil funkadelic i like the like unfiltered expressions like i remember people poking fun of linkin park for their lyrics n stuff and then the singer killed himself and a lot of the people realised the music was a lot more genuine than they thought i feel like a lot of people then made fun of it for being melodramatic but different people express themselves differently
i dont know how to post youtube links

I'm more into the avant-garde nu metal adjacent bands (Dog Fashion Disco, Polkadot Cadaver, Mushroomhead) or industrial metal (Static-X, Crossbreed) than I am straight forward nu metal. But I do like some "generic" nu metal too. Dope, Disturbed, System Of A Down, Drowning Pool, Slipknot, Korn, Seeded Crown, My Ruin, Marilyn Manson, Kittie, Primer 55...
I actually really like Vanilla Ice's nu metal stuff too

Neither "adjacent", nu metal and metalcore are totally different from each other.
Culturally, they are "adjacent" in that in the 2000s the Roadrunner era of "New Wave Of American Heavy Metal" kind of just lumped nu metal, metalcore, groove metal, and whatever else was coming out around that time together.

It wasn't uncommon for bands like Lamb Of God, Machine Head, Shadows Fall, Slipknot, Chimaira, Killswitch Engage, Disturbed, Mushroomhead, and Trivium to be lumped together culturally.

However, sonically and philosophy-wise, nu metal and metalcore are completely different.
Metalcore has "waves".
Wave 1 - "metallic hardcore" - was hardcore punk with slight metal influence. Bands like Earth Crisis, Converge, Meek Is Murder.
Wave 2 (the wave I like) - "melodic metalcore" - mixed melodic death metal with hardcore, basically became melodeath with breakdowns and cleans. Bands like All That Remains, Killswitch Engage, Trivium, Shadows Fall.
Wave 3 - "scene-core" - Made metalcore pop and mixed electronic and pop punk influences with hardcore and metal. Bands like Bring Me The Horizon, Attack Attack, We Butter The Bread With Butter, Asking Alexandria.
Wave 4 - "djent" - added a prog element to metalcore. Bands like Tesseract, Periphery, Protest The Hero.
Wave 5 - "Architects-core" - basically bands inspired by Architects, add a post-hardcore or alternative rock influence, maybe theatrical, very commercial. Bands like Architects, Pierce The Veil, Bad Omens, Ice Nine Kills.

Nu Metal on the other hand was kind of a catch all term for metal in the late 90s and through the 2000s. It's not an easy to define genre. It started as a term used for bands that mixed rap or rap influence with metal - Limp Bizkit, Slipknot, Korn, etc. But also lumped in radio rock bands like Disturbed or Drowning Pool that didn't really have the rap influence, but were "heavier than rock". It also lumped in the weird avante-gard bands, influenced by Mr. Bungle, like System Of A Down, Mushroomhead, and Dog Fashion Disco. It also lumped in the goth influenced artists like Marilyn Manson, and Dope. It lumped in industrial metal artists like Static-X, Crossbreed, and Fear Factory. Groove metal bands like Soulfly, and Machine Head had a "nu metal" period.

Nu metal became synonomous with mall goth - Hot Topic, and Trip pants. Nu metal was moreso a cultural phenomenon that is still thought of as a lesser defined sub genre.

Metalcore was a distinct sub genre of music, with waves that at one point culturally, but not sonically, lined up with nu metal's popularity.

Was never really much into nu-metal besides some Korn songs and SOAD (if it counts), also this song from a spanish band, although more kinda groove metal

I was in High School when Nu Metal hit the scene. I was definitely more into the Korn side of the spectrum and didn't listen to much on the Limp Biskit side of the spectrum. But it is nice seeing Static X, Spineshank, Sevendust, Adema, Korn, Mudvayne, Slipknot, Linkin Park, and System of a Down already mentioned. High School I did love Dope but I can't listen to them anymore and Mushroom Head no longer clicks with me.

But what about some Soil
Or some Taproot
Or even Deftones
