I really like the [New profile post] page, but I feel like everytime I check it it's cluttered by way too many birthday posts. It's basically spam at this point. Would it be possible to isolate birthday posts from the [New profile post] page, so they only remain in the profiles?

I agree, and wanted to reply so don't think you are alone! But I don't think anything can really be done about it. Only thing I could think of would be a level req to receive profile posts like how there is to make/comment on a pfp. This prevents being able to make birthday pfp's to inactive users.

That said, I am a "birthday grouch" irl ::sadkirby I have never liked celebrating mine, nor the celebration of birthdays in general. But it seems most here like birthday posting, and I wouldn't want to take away their fun. I'm sure I am in the minority.

Finally, sorry to be pedantic everyone, but you aren't referring to "spam" but "flooding" in this forum context, imo. "Spam" is always unsolicited/random, so think like an advertising spam-bot that just posts links to websites and is always off topic: only reason is advertising. "Flooding" also implies multiple posts that disrupt reading a forum/thread/chat, but it IS on topic or for a reason (such as birthday wishes here). But usually flooding is for the purpose of trolling.

I agree with this. I actually made quite a heartfelt post regarding the recent events that made some pretty notable people leave. It was actually already done several times by other members by that point, so really it was a shared sentiment by me. It lasted on the front page where it could be easily viewed for about 4 minutes before a cacophony of birthday post to people that never even have posted in the first place cluttered it up, and sent what I shared to the main profile post page aka shadow realm.

I think a good solution would be that after you provide your birthday its not publicly displayed at the bottom until you make at least 25 post/reach level 1. Birthday post, especially in the abundance it proves to be, should be more of a community based thing, not also for people that solely show up to grab a couple of roms from the repo.

I decided I'm going to retract what I said here. Having a threshold on them just seems unfair. The reality to it is when you scroll over their name to then select it to write on their profile you have 2 opportunities to see if they're even active or not, so if they're not why say anything? When I make a birthday post to someone its a person that I know is active, someone I've interacted with in fact. I know the idea is to be kind, overtly so, but have some awareness. My idea of kindness is right here right now with retracting my previous post when really it is pretty lame to do what I suggested at all lmao. Again 2 opportunities: when you scroll over the name, and when you click on the profile. Honestly its feeling like its an attempt at filling dead air if you will if anything.

Those birthday greetings are a sign of good will even it may look like a bit spamming but it’s a welcoming gesture to everyone active or not which is something most of the users including me wants to spread.
That being said I think it’s more on what posters think when they put up those greetings but on my part it’s a sign that everyone wanted this place to different and non toxic unlike some forums of the past. I think we all wanted this place to be haven of understanding and a place where discrimination isn’t welcome.

The thing about that is that profile posts are the part of the forum we have the least control over -- it's almost impossible to customize, change, move or edit their behaviors without pulling off some sweeping, overreaching change that would definitely modify more than that one issue.

Don't think so!
We're people, not robots. Er.. Well, most of us.
Taking away people's birthday wish posts from the main feed would require each individual post to be flagged, meaning someone would have to be sitting around watching just for that reason. Since everyone is busy with other things, we would be better off having a longer list of new profile posts instead. That way you could see more of what's going on.

you can already opt into a longer list by clicking the "latest profile posts" label text

Yeah, I noticed that too. I genuinely thought it was a spam bot or something lol.

I thought so too, but wasn't positive and didn't want to sound stupid. 😅
You can click the = and then below Forum there is an option to see "New Posts", and from there a sidescrolling bar with the option "New Profile Posts".

There's also the What's New dropdown tab with New Profile Posts as one of the options! Immediately readable and selectable without scrolling. Convenient.

That's how people have been able to see my status, despite them having been pushed off the main page by other's Birthday wish messages. :loldog

hell yeah!! that shit its so annoyng i sometimes have to scroll trought a entire page of nothing but birthday wishes, its really spamy, nobody its saying to take it away no need to be so exagerated and scare people, but maybe unclutter the post page a little bit. ::beer

Was about to make suggestion for a "following only" filter for the profile tab but just found that it already exists! I don't hate the birthday spam, but it does make it harder to actually see more interesting posts. At least this'll make it a little easier to see cool posts from cool people and gives me a reason to actually use the follow button.

Nah, I dislike this suggestion. Birthday's are meant to be celebrated, and you can deal with one or two extra clicks to let someone have their day. It only get's particularly active when it's a regular's birthday anyway. I've been posting Miku in my profile posts for months now, and I've never felt spammed out by birthday posts.

This is a dormant thread that went nowhere then got necrobumped out of nowhere and will likely still not lead to any developments so in the interest of maintaining peace I’ll put it on hold for the time being until further notice. Like Waffles said, there’s little we can do to control profile posts and it would feel unnecessarily harsh to go on a delete spree of harmless messages in my opinion. That’s all for now.
