At this point I'm just considering walking away from the Nintendo ecosystem. I feel like giving this company a single ounce of my mindshare is like shaking hands with the devil. They're greedier and nastier now than they've ever been in their history, even compared to the stories from the 1980s when Nintendo were outright intimidating third party devs and retailers for exclusivity. I've heard every excuse in the book, "Oh but their games are great!", "Oh don't hate the devs just hate the execs!", "Oh what about nostalgia!, I'll never forget the first time I played Super Smash Bros!", "Oh but they SAVED VIDEOGAMES" (lie). All of that is a cope, it's irrelevant, it's B.S. The devs are willingly working for a slimy, greedy, and backhanded company that exploits not only their own workers, but the entire industry. It will stoop to any low, and will throw insane temper tantrums to get it's way, even so far as imagining threats that don't exist. Besides, I'm over nostalgia. I've played all the good stuff Nintendo made previously multiple times over, I've experienced the same levels and storylines enough to last me a lifetime, and their new stuff just isn't as good by comparison. It took us 11 years to get Mario Kart World, and everyone is telling me it's a worse game than Mario Kart 8. The "magic" is gone, and if it isn't it's disappearing fast.
This is an extortionate, 'foreign' company that is faceless, and is manipulating children to be lifelong fans the same way McDonald's and Disney were. Their stain on video games is so bad that entire generations of game developers are just copying from their playbook, without creating anything new. We are living in a cycle of repeats and rehashes, it's bad for the mind and the soul. Nostalgia needs to end, we need to move on.
