Just out of curiosity, do you think that a company as brand-sensitive as Nintendo would be unaware of what was being published on its official website for its flagship property?

I don't think you should care that much about what Nintendo says here, but I also do think Nintendo probably is aware of it. I also assume its executives, including Shigeru Miyamoto, are fine with it.

You still are allowed to interpret them as romantically invested in one another, so this doesn't strike me as that big of a deal.

I used to play Decap Attack a lot in early 90's... you ever play the Japanese version? completely different from Decap in many ways with the hero havin an Arabian or otherwise middle-eastern-ish theme with an entirely different soundtrack n 1-hit deaths instead of the life meter. amazing wut efforts Japanese developers would put forth in the name of localization. now it's like... Honestly will never understand peoples need to add relationships to games that don´t have any. It´s like Genshin and similar games people ship charters left and right.

I mean, playing devil's advocate here, the whole point of Mario and Link's original adventures was to "rescue the princess". It makes sense why fans ship Mario/Peach and Link/Zelda when saving them is the ultimate goal of the game.

Personally I agree with you though. Mario and Zelda don't really NEED romance in the games.

It's a "family friendly" company. They aren't going to toss together Peach and Mario for one reason.
